Images From Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Comic-Con Footage Leak

Comic-Con wrapped up over a week ago so we're kind of surprised it's taken this long for this to happen, but some pretty grainy, lo-res but no less intriguing snaps from the "Prometheus" footage shown in San Diego have made it to the web, providing us our first look at Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Idris Elba in the film.

'Spirit Of Vengeance' Co-Star Idris Elba Says He Would Love To Play 'Power Man' Character Luke CageBookended by a title card that read “fucking your shit up in 3D February 2012,” the "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" footage showcased co-directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's particularly physical style of filmmaking. Both filmmakers ran cameras simultaneously in certain shots, Taylor held on to moving motorcycles wearing only rollerblades as he filmed the action, and the two of them generally disregarded their personal safety as they shot some fairly epic action sequences. When asked whether they’ve ever been hurt, Neveldine knocked on the table and said, “Nope – and we would never ask stunt men or actors to do anything we wouldn’t do.” They added that they always try to include any shots where stunt men injure themselves, as a tribute to their efforts: “You will see real bones breaking in this movie,” Taylor said.

So, what was that tweet all about? At the end of May, Idris Elba took to his Twitter and cryptically tweeted, “Having one of the biggest meetings of my professional life today…meeting a very controversial director for a very controversial part.” He followed that up with, “I wish I could tell you more but…in due time,” and also added, “On the plane to the destination of my fate…..ok…. a lil dramatic….destination of my life..?” While many (including us) figured he was talking about "Django Unchained," word began to crop up he was being eyed for another movie entirely: Guillermo Del Toro's "Pacific Rim."

Every now and then there is a story of an actor who has worked hard for years, slowly building acclaim on the back of strong performances matched by a just as tenacious work ethic. One of those people right now is Idris Elba. He had almost a decade of experience under his belt when he took on the role of Stringer Bell in the acclaimed HBO series "The Wire" and from there, things began to snowball until suddenly he seems to be everywhere. He's already got another hot television series on the other side of the ocean in "Luther," he played Heimdall in the box office hit "Thor" and he's currently working with Ridley Scott again (he was in "American Gangster") on his "Alien" spinoff "Prometheus." He recently cryptically tweeted about possibly working with "a very controversial director for a very controversial part" which most assume is Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" but it appears another big movie also wants a piece of Elba.

And the Internet pretty much lit up with speculation.

It's currently running between "Thor" and "Green Lantern" right now as to which comic movie is going to end up being the goofiest this summer. Admittedly, both are tough stories to bring to mainstream audiences -- alien worlds, hammers, green suits, power rings -- and while treatments we've seen so far have shown evidence of unintentional camp, hopefully the overall tone of the pictures will help sell the more outlandish elements. But until then, random pics like this aren't helping the non-comic faithful.

A project that we were actively dreading only a few months ago, we are now looking forward to Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" more than any film from the director in years. The helmer's always worked best in the sci-fi field ("Alien," "Blade Runner") and the idea that he's working on a project that's evolved from a full-blown prequel to the "Alien" series to (for the most part -- and we'll get to that in a moment) something very different, and more original, is a fascinating one. While the script has since received a major overhaul from "Lost" and "Star Trek" writer Damon Lindelof, if even a small fraction of the bold ideas featured in the Jon Spaihts draft we read make it to the screen, it's going to be very different from every other sci-fi tentpole out there.

Nicolas Cage Will Somehow Have To Survive With A $7 Million PaycheckIndustry analysts claim the recession ended in June 2009, but how can that be true if it still troubles our superheroes? It was just 2007 when Nicolas Cage was suited up to play Johnny Blaze in "Ghost Rider," a film budgeted north of $110 million. Cage received somewhere between $12 and $20 million upfront, and the film grossed $229 worldwide before a healthy DVD life. Mortgages were paid, Sony was flush with cash, and everyone was happy.
