'Batman Begins' Gets IMAX Re-Release Treatment In Anticipation Of Nolan's Trilogy Marathon Finale

Color yourself not shocked, but be content that the upgrade is not a 3D conversion. Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" will receive the IMAX treatment on July 19, leading up to the finale of his Batman trilogy, "The Dark Knight Rises" which opens the next day on July 20.

As if anticipation hadn't already reached a fever pitch for “The Avengers,” following its stellar reception by nearly every news outlet including ours, then consider that level increased, as news comes today that the third trailer for “The Dark Knight Rises” will unspool in front of the Joss Whedon film.

Once mostly used for nature and history documentaries, the IMAX format has made the leap to the multiplex with Christopher Nolan bringing it boldly to his Batman franchise, Brad Bird using it to frame Ethan Hunt on his latest globe trotting adventure and J.J. Abrams considering sending the Enterprise through outer space on massive big screen size. And while it's too soon to tell if the industry will embrace the format the way they have 3D (granted, there are a few technological hurdles that need to be cleared before that can happen), one filmmaker isn't yet convinced of the merits of IMAX.
