Now that she's gone from "Saturday Night Live," we're entering a new phase of Kristen Wiig's career. The actress already had a monster hit under her belt thanks to "Bridesmaids," but to her credit, she didn't rush into the first paycheck that came along, mixing big-time comedies like this Christmas's duo of "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty" and "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" with indies like the upcoming "Hateship, Loveship" and "The Skeleton Twins."

"Imogene" finds Kristen Wiig in victory lap mode, and that suits her just fine. Perhaps the most likable comedic actress to come down the pike since Diane Keaton threw on a Civil War-era vest and floppy hat, Wiig finds herself, post-"Bridesmaids," in rarified company. She is a beloved, in-demand actress and comedienne, and a star who has something Kristen Stewart and Angelina Jolie would maim for: likability.

For the enterprising mini-majors, studio subsidiaries and indie start-ups, there are three key markets to acquire films: There's Sundance, where only a handful of movies come with distribution already sorted, and everyone hopes to uncover the next "Little Miss Sunshine" or "Precious." There's Cannes, which not only has a huge film market (often concerned with pre-sales as much as finished movies), but debuts some of the biggest international films of the year. And then there's the Toronto International Film Festival.

Sundance has the indie cred. Cannes gets the big names in world cinema, and the best parties. Venice has the best location, and often the most interesting line-up. Berlin contains the hidden gems. SXSW is the up-and-comer. Telluride has the mountain air. But increasingly, the Toronto International Film Festival is becoming the most important in the film industry.

Maybe we should call it Annette Bening day. The actress features in two new photos from two films arriving on the film festival circuit. First up is "Imogene," which is a starring vehicle for Kristen Wiig, developed by the 'SNL' comedienne before she took off in "Bridesmaids." Directed by Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman ("American Splendor"), the picture centers on a washed-up playwright (Wiig) who, after faking her own suicide as a ploy to get her ex-boyfriend's attention, winds up remanded to the custody of her wackily dysfunctional family. The picture also co-stars Bening, as you can see by the photo, Matt Dillon and "Glee" star Darren Criss.

Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, the directors of "American Splendor," HBO's 2011 drama "Cinema Verite" and the underrated 2010 indie "The Extra Man," return to the world of dark comedy this year with a break-out SNL star as their lead in "Imogene."
