In Your Eyes
It ought to be easy to dislike Joss Whedon. He's an absurdly talented, extremely laid-back mega-geek who created some of the finest TV ever and now gets to play with all Marvel's money and makes little indie movies on the side just because he can... and he's also a musician. This isn't really news, since Whedon wrote the “Firefly” theme tune, the songs for the musical “Buffy” episode “Once More With Feeling,” the songs for “Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog” (and for the sing-along DVD commentary to that blog)—the man even wrote a song for the direct-to-video “The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride.” He ought to be really, really resent-able.

In Your Eyes
Although it only premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival a little over a week ago, the Joss Whedon-penned supernatural romance “In Your Eyes” is already available on demand via Vimeo and in a strange bit of timing, the first trailer for the film has only now just been released.

In Your Eyes
Before he became one of the more powerful filmmakers in Hollywood, Joss Whedon was known for his quips. These were rattled off and recited by a series of characters who all spoke in the same easily identifiable, highly stylized, pop culture-infused geek language of Whedon himself. (Whedon’s best collaborators, like Drew Goddard and Marti Noxon, knew how to approximate this code better than others.) But there was always another side of Whedon, exhibited in the best episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and its cruelly underrated spin-off “Angel,” one that was incredibly sensitive and sincere. It’s this Whedon, the one more interested in pulling at your heartstrings than tickling your funny bone that is on display in “In Your Eyes,” a new supernatural romance that, if you can get past the occasional sappiness, is a pretty moving, offbeat little love story.

In Your Eyes
You would think with all things Marvel on his plate, Joss Whedon wouldn't have time for much else, but you'd be wrong. Last year he dropped the indie Shakespearean tale "Much Ado About Nothing," and now he's headed into the Tribeca Film Festival as the writer and executive producer of the metaphysical romance "In Your Eyes." And today we have a little treat for you from the film.

After winning the Best Actress Award at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival for Bradley Rust Gray’s “The Exploding Girl,” Zoe Kazan added a big-budget rom-com (“It’s Complicated”) and more indie dramas (“Meek’s Cutoff”) to her resume, starred on Broadway (“A Behanding in Spokane”) with Christopher Walken, and wrote the charming (and underrated) screenplay for “Ruby Sparks,” in which she starred with her longtime partner Paul Dano.

Well here's a bit of a switcheroo. It was only a couple of weeks ago that it was reported that Abigail Spencer (best known for her stint on "Mad Men") would be taking the lead in the Joss Whedon-penned "In Your Eyes." But as she's gearing up to make to star in and produce her script "Wrong Number" (co-produced by the omnipresent James Franco, of course), this spring, perhaps she thought it wise to give herself some time to get prepared. But no matter, "In Your Eyes" has rebounded with a more than capable replacement.

After a brief but memorable stint on AMC's critical darling "Mad Men," as a young teacher of Don Draper's daughter who develops a relationship with him, Abigail Spencer has diligently been putting her name out there; she had a supporting role in last summer's "Cowboys & Aliens" and appears in the upcoming "This Means War," "Oz, The Great And Powerful" and "Of Men And Mavericks." It was only a matter of time before she got a chance to prove herself in a leading role, and now she will, as THR reports that the actress will topline the Joss Whedon-scripted, Brin Hill-helmed supernatural-romance "In Your Eyes."
