Gale Snoats, Charlie Meadows, Walter Sobchak and Big Dan Teague -- these are memorable characters played by John Goodman in “Raising Arizona,” “Barton Fink,” “The Big Lebowski” and “O Brother Where Art Thou?” (he also made a brief cameo in "The Hudsucker Proxy") and he's set to make his first movie with the duo in over a decade.

It's hard to believe that just two years ago the world was waking up to Carey Mulligan. The actress seemed to come out of nowhere with her turn in Lone Scherfig's "An Education," and rather than try and go for big paydays in tentpole or franchise movies, Mulligan has wisely opted to work with filmmakers instead. Jim Sheridan ("Brothers"), Oliver Stone ("Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps"), Mark Romanek ("Never Let Me Go"), Nicolas Winding Refn ("Drive") and Steve McQueen ("Shame") now grace her filmography, with Baz Luhrmann being added this fall as she shoots "The Great Gatsby." And Mulligan isn't stopping there, as Variety report, she's adding two more helmers to the list.

If you've been paying attention, you probably already know that Oscar Isaac is poised to be a major star. The actor has already logged time with folks like Steven Soderbergh ("Che"), Ridley Scott ("Body Of Lies," "Robin Hood") and Alejandro Amenábar ("Agora") but 2011 is proving to be banner year. Of course, we don't need to tell you that even in his small role in "Drive" his presence impressed, and he even managed to come out smelling like roses as one of the few pleasures in the otherwise dreadful "Sucker Punch." And later this year, he'll be seen in Madonna's awards season baiter "W.E." Tony Gilroy wanted him to take the lead role in "The Bourne Legacy," but when that went to Jeremy Renner, he found the actor a meaty co-starring role instead. But now, Isaac is lining up what may just be the biggest role of his career.

After the runaway success of "True Grit," which nabbed a quarter of a billion dollars worldwide, you'd figure Joel and Ethan Coen would cash in their chips with a major studio, try to get something expensive made, or force the major studios to pony up prior to shooting. The Coens haven't operated independently for awhile, as a distributor has been in place for their last few films before the project was even shot. This time, however, the brothers are doing something different: out of the Toronto International Film Festival, the rumor is that the Coens' latest, "Inside Llewyn Davis," will be filmed without a domestic distributor attached, with only Studio Canal backing the picture for international rights.

It looks like the Coens are a little closer to getting their next film mounted, and with producer Scott Rudin -- who paired with duo previously on "No Country For Old Men" and "True Grit" -- now behind the film, it looks like the trio are gearing up for another run at the Oscars.
