Into the pantheon of horror movie creatures comes Hollowface, the cloaked villain of Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s “Intruders.” In this horror film, two separate families are stalked by the faceless killer who seeks his own identity. The film stars Clive Owen, who is used to fighting all sorts of bad guys, but has never explicitly tackled a ghost.

While many video game fans know the very low success rate of games-to-movies, they remain excited about an adaptation of "Bioshock." The ambitious game and its sequel have been world-building to an epic extent, taking place in an underwater civilization in 1960. Gore Verbinski was set to produce, with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo set to direct, but it appears the helmer may no longer be on the project.

How do you make the most of a ghost story in the age of post-meta horror films? If you're Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, you run with the idea of a fairy tale until you've copied and pasted so many tropes that "Intruders" emerges as a messy puddle.

When Juan Carlos Fresnadillo burst onto the scene with his Spanish-language feature “Intacto” in 2001, many took notice, including director Danny Boyle who would pass the torch of the undead along to the young helmer for the second installment of the “28 Days Later” franchise. Paying respects to Boyle’s work, while also acting as a perfectly capable standalone film, 2007’s “28 Weeks Later” surpassed many audience’s expectations. With so much momentum in his career, it was odd to watch the hype surrounding Fresnadillo dissipate, and that was certainly not helped by Bradley Cooper-starring remake of “The Crow” stalling before it ever really got off the ground.

We can smell the hickory smoke already....The SXSW Film Festival is right around the corner and this afternoon, organizers have unveiled the lineup for what is arguably the most fun section of the event -- the Midnighters. The screenings can often be raucous and often serve as the ground where future genre hits break out (last year, that honor was bestowed on "Attack the Block") and this year, these films will be hoping to get a similar kind of boost.

It seems the concept of horror being found right on your doorstep is experiencing a bit of mini-trend. The Guillermo Del Toro produced "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" finds scares under the covers at the end of the month, while Jim Sheridan dips into the psychological with "Dream House" in September. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's "Intruders" seems to be falling right between those two films.

Spanish helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo got himself onto the Hollywood radar fairly quickly with the one-two punch of "Intacto" followed by the solid "28 Weeks Later." He's already tipped for "The Crow" reboot/remake -- though that seems to be tied up in legal woes for the moment -- but he's got another film on the way that will try to spook you silly.
