Marvel Studios, and in particular the “Iron Man” franchise, have a long and storied history with Comic-Con and Hall H. Nearly all of their films have had a presence at the show, oftentimes debuting footage shot only days before the convention. “Captain America” famously debuted an impressively polished reel two years ago after only one week of shooting.

'The Hobbit,' 'Pacific Rim,' 'Man of Steel,' and 'Iron Man 3' Battle for Hall H Supremacy; 'Breaking Bad' Season 5 Premieres At San Diego Comic Con

Boasting the largest amount of seats in the San Diego Convention Center, topping off at around 6,000, Hall H has grown into a synonym at Comic-Con, with attendees for massive presentations showcasing studios’ latest geek-friendly output, as "The Avengers" did two years ago with its star-studded cast announcement. Last year though, as studios found their Con marketing investments lacking compared to the advertised films' opening weekends, it compelled us to question if blockbuster presence would subside, but a slew of new Con announcements would argue otherwise, at least for now.

Well, it always seemed like a bit of question mark. Back in April, Asian media was reporting that Andy Lau was in final negotiations to take a role in "Iron Man 3" as a friend of Tony Stark's who works in the tech sector and helps our hero defeat The Mandarin. While the first half of that ties into the already widely known Extremis storyline that is being used for the movie, the second half seemed a bit more dubious considering Marvel went out of there way to say The Mandarin was not the villain in this film (though rumors that he actually is have been cropping up again recently). But in any event, Lau won't be in the film.

Sometimes we don't understand movie marketing. After showing off a pretty exciting batch of new footage at the MTV Movie Awards last night, Warner Bros. lawyers have been spending their Monday sending emails and promptly taking it down all over the internet. Sounds counter-intuitive to us. Meanwhile, Marvel formally announced that "Iron Man 3" is kicking off production today and treated fans with an official set photo featuring.....a bunch of junk in the foreground, some Iron Man suits that nerds will be clicking/zooming/obsessing over and most thrillingly of all, the back of Robert Downey Jr.'s head. Covered by a clapperboard.

Normally, the window for open discussion on a film's ending is debatable, with some camps saying 6 months while others go for 5 years, but considering in the time it just took to blink “The Avengers” has made another cool million, we feel pretty confident in exploring its mid-credits teaser. Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige thinks so too, and in a recent interview he chatted about the eternal villain's role in their film universe, as well as his thought on “Iron Man 3” and “Thor 2.”

"Arrested Development" scene-stealer Judy Greer is adding another string to her bow, joining Kimberley Peirce's remake of Brian De Palma horror classic "Carrie." The actress will take on the role known simply as "The Gym Teacher," which we're presuming is the role of Miss Collins in the original, the empathetic teacher who looks out for Carrie and has an instrumental part in the film's climax at the prom.

The success of "The Avengers" doesn't seem to have made Marvel complacent when it comes to landing top-flight talent for their upcoming projects, even if it's presumably at their usual cut-price rate. The company, flush from their first billion-dollar hit, are gearing up to shoot "Iron Man 3," directed by "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" helmer Shane Black, in the next few weeks, and have assembled an impressive haul of talent to join the returning trio of Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle.

While Marvel's "Iron Man" franchise lost potential female lead star Jessica Chastain recently  -- she had to pass, she's busy this summer -- Robert Downey Jr. and new director Shane Black ("Kiss Kiss Bang Bang") clearly have their eye on some top notch talent. With Scarlett Johansson saying she's going to sit out "Iron Man 3," Tony Stark apparently needs yet another strong female in the cast that's not Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts. It appears Marvel has found their woman: "The Town" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" star Rebecca Hall is in talks to join the cast (presumably she'll add some sexual tension for the female-appreciating Stark).

Just when it seemed our fave redhead Jessica Chastain was making a play for a big franchise movie, it looks like her ever busy schedule is keeping her out. That's right -- Jessica Chastain has turned down a movie.
