The Wachowskis
Are the Wachowsksi siblings over or in trouble? Does the bumping of their next sci-fi blockbuster, “Jupiter Ascending” – which was recently delayed from a prime summer slot, to a less admired February release – mean they’re headed for another flop?

World War Z, Brad Pitt
History is littered with movie productions that went haywire and melted down (we recently chronicled a few that survived bad buzz and some that didn't). Either imploding on set because of director/actor spats, budgets that ballooned into excess causing for major flops, or any number of confluent forces that created disaster. Some films escaped their thought-to-be impending doom (“Avatar,” “Titanic”) and others (“John Carter,” “Battleship,”), well, they pretty much lived up to their “this is going to bomb” narrative.

Though last year’s “Cloud Atlas” wasn’t the barn-burner that some tipped it to be, The Wachowskis aren’t looking back, and are instead getting back to work. Not only are they working on their directorial follow-up "Jupiter Ascending," their first to tackle on their own since 2008’s “Speed Racer,” but the duo are set to embark on creating their first television series as well, and they’ve now found a home for the sci-fi show.

"Cloud Atlas" is coming, and buzz is building and if that translates into box office success, it will find the The Wachowski Starship back on top again after flopping with "Speed Racer." They've already got "Jupiter Ascending" brewing with Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, with a February start on the horizon, and now it looks like the siblings are set to tackle TV, and as usual, they are operating in secret.

With two critically and commercially successful reboots appearing in the past few years, in the form of Guy Ritchie's big-screen actioner and the BBC's superior contemporary reboot, Sherlock Holmes is very much back on the agenda. But his creator, Arthur Conan Doyle, has held almost as much fascination to filmmakers in recent years as the great detective himself: Doyle's appeared as a character, often in some kind of investigatory role, in the last decade in films like "Finding Neverland," "Shanghai Knights" and on the BBC mystery show "Murder Rooms," and now we look to be heading towards one more take that suggests that the writer didn't just leave the detecting to his creation.
