Angelina Jolie's greatest battle this year might just be her valiant effort against cancer, surviving thanks to a double mastectomy, modestly going public with her story and then heading back to work on her next project. It's the true WWII story "Unbroken," and after gaining a rewrite from the Coen Brothers earlier this year (nice), she's starting to search for the lead for the movie she'll direct.

Oh, so this is still happening then. "300: Battle of Artemisia" seems to have been brewing for a while now, but without the trigger really being pulled. The last we heard on this movie was back in March, but with a release date looming for late next summer, we suppose Warner Bros. are finally starting to get this thing rolling in earnest.

With "Harry Potter" wrapped up, and the final "Twilight" film only nine months away, Hollywood's search for a new teen-friendly franchise is starting to become a matter of urgency. So far attempts to mine other young adult novels have been unsatisfactory both commercially and creatively (see: "I Am Number Four"), and many of the films launched into development, projects like potential Taylor Lautner vehicle "Incarceron," Screen Gems' "The Mortal Instruments," Jonathan Levine's "Legend" and Warner Bros' "The Scorpio Races," have thus far failed to get off the ground.

Rising Stars Jack O'Connell, George MacKay & Alexandra Roach Lead Cast, Mark Knopfler To Write ScoreIt's not out until Christmas, but already "War Horse" is widely seen as an awards front-runner: it is, after all, directed by Steven Spielberg, based on a beloved novel, follows hot on the heels of a much-praised stage version that's been a smash hit both in London and on Broadway, and combines both a gruelling war tale and a touching journey to track down an animal, so it will have to be a real disaster to not leave audiences teary-eyed at the end. And it looks like people are banking on its success, as another novel with a World War One setting by Michael Morpurgo, writer of the original book, is heading to the big screen.

We're a couple of weeks away from finding out if "Attack The Block" will manage to connect with U.S. audiences, but regardless, both that and the Michael Caine vehicle "Harry Brown" seem to have made the humble British council estate a setting for genre fare as much as gritty dramas. Filming will kick off next week on another possible example that hopes to follow their success, and it's got a promising cast on board.
