Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
As Keira Knightley showed with her stints in a few "Pirates Of The Caribbean" films, she's not afraid to put on her blockbuster bloomers, it's just not something we see from the actress very often. Thus, we're still a bit surprised about her appearing in "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit." Anyway, whether or not her role extends beyond being Chris Pine's arm candy, or as the trailers suggest some kind of femme fatale, we'll just have to wait and see, but for now, here's some new pics of Knightley in the movie.

6 Movies Pushed Into 2014
Movies are dropping like flies from the Oscar season this year. Or rather, that seems to be the conventional wisdom out there as a handful of pictures have moved out of the awards season, switched dates or been punted into 2014. And you’ve heard time and time again that it’s a crowded season this fall and winter. And it is, but it’s really no more crowded than any other year -- this prestige season is always busy and there are always casualties and movement. Sure, the Oscar landscape is changing, and there’s been seismic shifts under our feet. George Clooney’s “Monuments Men” is now landing in February, what everyone thought was a surefire Oscar nominee in “Foxcatcher” has moved to unknown lands in 2014 and several other pictures thought to be 2013 Academy contenders have also adjusted plans.

So... when did Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan become Jason Bourne? Maybe we missed the meeting or memo, but from what we remember of past movies featuring the character, he wasn't quite doing his job this way. We suppose that's what reboots are for. Bringing new characters into contemporary times, though in this case it seems that process has made things a bit more generic.

The Wolf Of Wall Street Leonardo DiCaprio Margot Robbie
A couple weeks back, things looked a bit uncertain for Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street." Reports surfaced that the filmmaker had only just put together his initial rough cut, and there was still a lot of work to be done if he was to make the previously planned November 15th release date. And things were so up in the air, ideas were floated to possibly move the movie to early 2014 instead, with Paramount eyeing a similar date to "Shutter Island," one of the director's biggest box office hits. But audiences, fans and awards season bookies can now start breathing a bit easier as it looks like 'Wolf' will still bite this year.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Though Tom Clancy sadly passed way yesterday (check out feature on his best and worst films), marketing campaigns are usually plotted out long in advance, and while some raised an eyebrow at Paramount's supposed insensitivity at dropping the first poster for the movie as the news of the author's death was circulating, it was probably just a bad coincidence. And nevertheless, the campaign must soldier on -- now aided somewhat with Clancy's passing making headlines around the world -- and the first trailer for the terribly titled "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" is here.

Tom Clancy Movies, From Worst To Best
Tom Clancy, who had written over a dozen best-selling spy novels (and co-written more than a dozen additional novels) and overseen a vast, hugely profitable videogame empire, has died today at the age of 66. For an author who was prolific, and whose works were so inherently cinematic, usually involving large-scale tactical military strikes, a shockingly small amount of his material was actually developed for the screen. This December (unless it gets pushed) sees the release of Paramount's "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," in which Chris Pine takes over the role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan, a character previously inhabited by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck.

Jack Reacher. Jack The Giant Slayer. Jack Harper....we're getting a whole lot of Jack this year. And as 2013 wraps up, there will be another one in the form of "Jack Ryan," a reboot of sorts of the Tom Clancy character last seen on the big screen over a decade ago, played by Ben Affleck in "The Sum Of All Fears." Well, now Chris Pine is taking the mantle, and a couple new images from the upcoming blockbuster have arrived.

A few bits and bobs of casting, so let's just dive right in....first up, the always excellent Shea Whigam ("Take Shelter," "Silver Linings Playbook") has taken a role in his "Boardwalk Empire" executive producer Martin Scorsese's new film "The Wolf Of Wall Street." Based on the memoir of the same name, and adapted by Terence Winter, the film will tell the true story of Jordan Belfort, a wheeling and dealing New York stockbroker who sees his career and personal life fall into shambles thanks to sex, drugs and alcohol.

So, this is the bad guy in "Jack Ryan"? A businessman? We guess if he needs to do some evil, there's probably an app for that... on his now old and thus completely obsolete iPhone 4. Maybe he's calling on one of his minions to get in line to buy the new one.

The thing about Jack Ryan on the big screen is that, from a purely visual standpoint at least, there’s nothing that really distinguishes him as Jack Ryan. He could be any number of movie characters, and that’s rare for a character that Hollywood are willing to build a franchise around. So when we get a look at pictures from the set of a Jack Ryan film, if they didn’t come with descriptions attached we’d be tempted to simply peg them as ‘Chris Pine wearing a sweater while riding a motorpike’ or ‘Chris Pine standing next to Kevin Costner’. Well get ready, because you’re about to be blown away by ‘Chris Pine wearing sunglasses AND talking to Kenneth Branagh’.
