With production beginning in 2007, and premiering at the Venice Film Festival in 2009 (after being controversially rejected by Cannes), it has taken four years for Jaco Van Dormael's "Mr. Nobody" to secure a U.S. distributor and a release. (And we actually reviewed the movie when it opened in Canada three years ago). That should pretty much tell you all you need to know about this ambitious folly, but we reckon this new trailer does enough to showcase it's rather hokey conceit.

Dallas Buyers Club
It's 1986, just months after Rock Hudson's death brings AIDS to its biggest public attention yet, but as far as Ron Woodruff (Matthew McConaughey) is concerned, the real tragedy is the number of Hollywood babes the legendary actor could've easily bedded if he was straight. Along with cocaine, booze and whatever else can give him a good time, sex is an addiction for Texas man, who seems to have been born with a cowboy hat on his head, a Budweiser in his hand and one eye constantly on the opposite sex. He's a good ol' boy and hustler, playing for and betting on anything, while his rundown trailer is merely where he lays his head between the bar, his work as an electrician and wherever else his adventures might take him. But lately he's been getting rail thin, coughing a lot and even passing out. But it's only after a freak electrical accident on a work site that he winds up being seen by a doctor, and a brief high voltage jolt is the least of his problems. He's got HIV, and he's given 30 days to live.

All right, all right, all right... Matthew McConaughey is ready to wow the critics again in 2013, after spending last year proving to everyone he was more than just a pretty rom-com face. But will he get the hardware this time to go with the acclaim? Well, he's taking on the double duty of both a physical transformation and playing a man stricken with A.I.D.S. in "Dallas Buyer's Club," with the first trailer now landing online (mostly).

By now, the paparazzi have eclipsed their duty in circulating the razor-thin frame of Matthew McConaughey across the web, first snapped while on set for his role in Martin Scorsese's “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and now leading into his role as an AIDS patient with the indie drama “Dallas Buyers Club.” However, a formidable supporting lineup has also quietly signed on to the project around the actor's publicity, two more have joined the film sourced from real-life events.

Doc NYC Review: Jared Leto's 'Artifact' Is A Compelling Portrait Of A Music Industry Under Water

It's sort of hard to sympathize with one of the world's most handsome actors, who regularly moonlights as a Goth prince rock star, even when his spiteful record label decides to sue him and his band for the whopping sum of $30 million. This is the fate that befell Jared Leto and his shockingly popular pop rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, as they were about to begin work on their third album, This Is War. "Artifact," which recently won the BlackBerry People's Choice Documentary Award at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and was directed by Leto under a Seussian pseudonym, is something of an accomplishment, not just because of its surprisingly sturdy filmmaking but also because it turns Leto into, if not a likable center for a documentary, then at least a compelling guide through the current state of the music industry, in all its wretched decay.

We haven't seen Jared Leto on the big screen in a while (his last effort was 2009's "Mr. Nobody" slowly crawled its way to theaters worldwide over the last couple of years) mostly because he's been living the rock star dream of being your best friend's sister's favorite band. Somehow, Jordan Catalano became the frontman of 30 Seconds To Mars, and we've all suffered for it since. But thankfully, he's getting off the stage and back on screen, taking in a role in "Dallas Buyer's Club."
