Are moviegoers getting tired of a new Jason Statham movie every six to eight months where he plays a guy who has a job that requires him to beat people up? Granted, his resumé isn't the most varied but the actor has his niche and it seems to be serving both him and the studios well enough. In January, his latest "The Mechanic" opened up to Jason Statham Numbers which means $29 million domestic -- pretty much falling in line with the figures for "The Transporter," "Crank," "Cellular," "Death Race," and "The Bank Job." In an era of uncertainty at the box office he's about as close as it comes to a guarantee, though those numbers aren't going to get anyone at a studio promoted or anything.

Taylor Hackford already has an Oscar. No, no it's not for "Ray," it's actually for "Teenage Father," a short film he directed way, way back in 1979. And his filmography is mostly dramatic fare, stuff like "An Officer and a Gentleman," "Dolores Claiborne," "Proof Of Life" and last year's "Love Ranch." But as he closes in on seventy years old, Hackford is ready to get gritty.

Neil Marshall No Longer Attached To DirectDoes "The Professionals" sound familiar? It might. Last spring, the project first cropped up with Neil Marshall set to direct but since then, word on the project has been quiet. But today, there is fresh life and some big, big names being tossed around as potential leads.

So, didn't get a chance to see "The Mechanic" when it was in theaters a couple of months ago? Never fear, another movie with Jason Statham talking in his smoked leather voice and crackin' skulls is on the way (well, at least if you're in the U.K.). A red band trailer for "Blitz" has arrived and it delivers the generic goods.

We suppose it makes a bit of sense that Eric Bana's discarded projects will filter down to one-note actor Jason Statham, but it's still a bit of weird switch-up.

Review: ‘Mechanic’ Remake Is Exactly What You’d Expect From A Jason Statham Movie In January

"The Mechanic" is the prototypical early year action movie -- nothing more and nothing less. Star Jason Statham, who again plays an infallible, lethal bad-ass, seems to have carved his niche as the current go-to guy for B-movie action flicks. The beefy Brit once seemed like a promising heir to the ‘80s blockbuster action hero throne left vacant by Sly and Ah-nold, but with a few exceptions ("The Bank Job," "The Italian Job"), his filmography over the past decade compares more realistically to the likes of Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal.

When "The Mechanic" was released in 1972, starring Charles Bronson as a professional hitman named Arthur Bishop and Jan-Michael Vincent as his protégé, Steve McKenna, the world of professional killers hadn’t yet become a staple of American cinema. In the almost four decades since, that is far from the case. A slew of imitators have followed, some good ("The Professional," "Grosse Pointe Blank") and some not so good ("Assassins," "Hitman").

CBS Films is hoping to start of 2011 on solid footing after a dreadful 2010 that feature box office bombs like "Extraordinary Measures," "The Back-Up Plan" and "Faster" stinking up multiplexes. Enter Jason Statham. Pretty much playing the same guy he plays in every movie, he stars in "The Mechanic" and it now has a fresh red-band trailer.

Nicolas Cage To Try On Some Bling-Bling For 'Medallion'

Nicolas Cage's well-documented tax problems have made him the bitch of shady production company Milennium Films. The company's protocol seems to be to make cheap exploitation pictures before selling off the rights to individual territories, a touch-and-go philosophy that produces the occasional gem ("Leaves of Grass") alongside output that, dictated by the law of averages, ends up going straight to DVD. While the studio has few consistent collaborators, Cage starred in their "Wicker Man" remake and now has "Trespass" and "Drive Angry" slated for 2011. Joining that fleet is the upcoming "Medallion," making that four collaborations between Cage and a company that, very likely, pays quickly, and in cash.

You gotta hand it to Jason Statham. The guy knows he's never gonna win an Oscar, and what pays the bills: beating the living shit out of dudes on screen. So we guess we can't fault him for joining yet another faceless, brainless action flick, we just wish we could muster up the energy to care about it.
