If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. About two years ago, reports went around that Warner Bros. were hoping to re-team "A Few Good Men" duo Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson for "El Presidente." It was denied a couple days later, with reps saying that Cruise wasn't officially attached, but clearly the studio were interested...and they still are, as the project is now surfacing again.

There's one major problem that Jay Roach's political comedy "Dog Fight" faces next year: if the Republican debates have been anything to go by, there's no way that the film, produced by Adam McKay and starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as a pair of rival South Carolina politicians, can hope to live up to the absurdity and sheer hilarity of the primary season that kicks off in only a few weeks. Even the comic brains behind Ron Burgundy surely couldn't come up with a world in which Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich are genuine front-runners in a presidential race, right?

Hollywood is a strange beast -- projects come and go every day with a chance to bankrupt everyone but make one or two people a lot of money. This leads to the high demand for sequels, further installments that no one asked for in franchises that should have stopped either after the first film, or even before the pen hit the page. Another 'Austin Powers' hits this sweet spot perfectly, as Mike Myers is about to accept what is likely a huge sum to return in a fourth installment in the spy spoof series, according to HitFix.

Universal is currently working on three projects, two of which don't exactly interest us and a third which, if done properly, could be incredibly entertaining.

Comedian Says Paramount Pictures Are Being "Idiots" About 'Anchorman 2'Playing the Tribeca Film Festival this week is the low-key Will Ferrell film, "Everything Must Go," directed by first-timer Dan Rush. Loosely based on a Raymond Carver short story and co-starring Michael Peña and Rebecca Hall, Ferrell turns in one of his most understated and nuanced performance ever (yes, including "Stranger Than Fiction") as an alcoholic who relapses, causing him to lose his wife, his job and his home which forces him to hold a yard sale on his front lawn in an attempt to start over.

What happens when you become hot in Hollywood is that you're able to attach yourself to a lot of projects, firstly to give yourself more options, and secondly because the material that gets sent your way tends to get better as your fame meter rises. But timing, schedules and other factors mean that sometimes a project gets stalled or doesn't get made, or simply, there's no time to do it.

For politics buffs, or really anyone, the 2008 election campaign provided an enormous amount of drama. The twists and turns, from Barack Obama's surprise victory at the Iowa caucuses and the tanking of Rudolph Guiliani's campaign to the death of Obama's grandmother on the eve of his election, gripped the world across the year like it was the best ever season of "The West Wing," so it's no surprise that it would receive big-screen treatment sooner rather than later.

Perhaps the least well-known script ever to top the Black List and still get made, "Recount," from former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" actor Danny Strong (who most recently penned "The Butler," which is set to team Lee Daniels and Denzel Washington), went behind the scenes of the drama of the 2000 election, and the controversial series of recounts in Florida that (eventually) saw George W. Bush defeat Al Gore for the Presidency.

Two days ago, a pitch went out to studios with Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianakis attached that would depict them as Presidential candidates timed to coincide with the 2012 elections. And now, the auction has ended: Deadline reports that Warner Bros. will back a Jay Roach-directed comedy that pits these two comedians against each other in the political arena.
