Masters Of The Universe
Despite a risibly poor first attempt with Dolph Lundgren and a lot of aborted efforts in the late aughts, Sony Pictures hasn’t given up on trying to bring their He-Man movie “Masters of the Universe” back to the big screen. After all, imagine all those franchise possibilities if it hits, since aside from “Spider-Man,” Sony is currently the studio sorely lacking in franchises. A recent attempt almost happened with Jon M. Chu, the director of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” but he bailed last year. Terry Rossio ("The Lone Ranger" and every "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie) has penned the most recent version of the script and is eager to bring this franchise back to life, and Sony has apparently narrowed down the field for replacement directors.

Last week, Quentin Tarantino somewhat surprisingly and randomly dropped his list of his Top Ten Films Of 2013 (So Far), that featured its own amount of surprising and random choices. Ranging from indie fare like "Afternoon Delight," "Before Midnight" and "Frances Ha" to oddball choices like "The Conjuring" and "Kick-Ass 2," perhaps the most curious selection in the unordered list was "The Lone Ranger." The summer's critical and commercial bomb seemed to find favor with Tarantino, but in a recent interview with French weekly Les Inrockuptibles (print edition, not yet online), he shares his criticisms of the Johnny Depp western and brief thoughts on his top ten.

The pressure of insurmountable expectations from established predecessors hangs over “Kick-Ass 2,” seen in the characters of Mindy Macready (Chloe Grace Moretz) and Chris D’Amico (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). Teenage Mindy trains to push herself as costumed crimefighter Hit-Girl, visibly seeking approval from the vacated costume of her late father, known to the general populace as Big Daddy. She’s promised to avoid letting down her doting dad, but she also vowed to honor Marcus (Morris Chestnut), her new legal guardian handpicked by her father who wishes the girl would try to lead a normal, non-costumed life. Young millionaire D’Amico, meanwhile, remains haunted by the sight of his father blown to bits by a bazooka fired by young vigilante Kick-Ass at the end of the first picture, believing he can honor dad’s memory by building his own criminal empire.

X-Force Jeff Wadlow
Like we said, team-up movies are so hot right now, but forget about that pipe dream idea of Hugh Jackman's to bring together Wolverine, Spider-Man and The Avengers together into one CGI orgy of a superhero movie. Instead, let's focus on what's actually happening, and we'd wager it's enough to get fans excited, especially with Comic-Con just around the corner.

As every new trailer shows, the “Fast and Furious” franchise is slowly inching toward “Speed Racer” with tank tops, but that journey hit a bump last week when it was revealed that 'Furious 6' director Justin Lin would not return for the series' seventh installment. That didn't stop rumors from swirling about that film's villain, but it seems Universal have now made steps toward finding a new helmer, and quick.

Well, a stopped clock is right twice a day. After two years of pretty much bullshit from "Kick-Ass" creator Mark Millar, it looks like his talk that "Kick-Ass 2" would shoot this summer is actually becoming a reality.
