USA Today confirms what we've been hearing about Sturgess' involvement in the picture as they say, he "next ventures to Berlin to film the Wachowski brothers' new movie 'Cloud Atlas.'"

The Influence Of 'Once Upon A Time In America' & More From Lone Scherfig & Jim Sturgess About The FilmThere’s the average romantic comedy with the meet cute or initial hatred between the inevitable lovers, and then there’s “One Day.” Rather than featuring a traditional love story narrative, set over days, weeks, or even months, “One Day” visits Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess) on July 15 every year, starting in the ‘80s. The audience gets a glimpse of where they are--and where they are in relation to each other--each year on that day, creating 23 mini-films in one. They’re friends who are constantly bordering on being much more, even as others enter their lives.

Jim Sturgess Says The Book Was All He Needed To Get Prepared For 'One Day'

In “One Day,” Jim Sturgess’ Dexter is kind of an asshole, though certainly the kind of asshole that some women are irresistibly and illogically drawn to. He says and does things to Anne Hathaway’s Emma that would make him irredeemable if played by a less charming actor, but because it’s Sturgess who’s doing the heartbreaking, we’re content to watch--and would likely volunteer to be the victim as well. Based on David Nicholls’ book (and the author’s screenplay), the Lone Scherfig film follows the pair dipping into each others' lives for one day a year across three decades. They perform a dance where they’re alternately joining together and pushing each other away as their lives and selves change from their twenties through their forties.

Review: 'One Day' Essentially An Overwrought Nicholas Sparks Movie With Dodgy English Accents

Treacly, oftentimes predictable, lacking real chemistry and sporting a narrative conceit that never really serves the movie well, if you thought the only thing missing from movies based on Nicholas Sparks novels was questionably convincing English accents, “One Day” may be the movie for you. While there’s something to be said for any film that takes relationships between young adults even semi-seriously, Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess discover plenty of melodrama in their characters’ two-decade, on-off romance, but they unfortunately fail to fill out the other 364 days of those years with much depth.

We're not sure what's going on in the Chris Martin household, but Apple's parents are looking to be switching up their careers. With Gwyneth Paltrow making strides into the music biz, Martin and his bandmates are now dipping their toes into the hard knock world of film financing.

Updated: Jim Sturgess Not AttachedUpdated: While Bleeding Cool say they talked to one of the producers of one of the films. Perhaps they spoke out of turn. Sturgess' reps emailed us to say the information is wrong and he is not in the picture. We hope for BC's sake that Malin Ackerman is in the picture too as they have reported.

Valentine's Day has come and gone for another year, and workplaces are buzzing with what everyone got up to last night. Rom-com marathons on your own at home, candlelit champagne dinners out with a loved one, or something in between -- in this writer's case, an evening spent in a dingy hotel room with three Romanian acrobats, some strobe lighting, a tank of oxygen, a live goat, a series of dressing gown cords, and Lou Reed's "Berlin" on repeat. What? Love comes in many different forms.

Update: Thanks to some astute reader tips, we've learned that the project is "Trishna," a modern day re-telling of "Tess of the d'Urbervilles." The setting of the film has been relocated to India and will follow the tragic relationship between Jay and Trishna, the former the son of a property developer, the latter the daughter of an auto rickshaw owner. You can read the full synopsis here but we warn you, it's very spoiler heavy. No word yet on when it will go in front of cameras but according to production designer David Bryan, it will shoot in Jaipur, India.

Wow. We knew that early word on this was good, but we didn't know it was this good. Focus Features has set the Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess led rom-com "One Day" with a scheduled July 8th release date, placing it right in the middle of the summer blockbuster season. The move will put the film, opening in a platform release, up against the Kevin James family vehicle "The Zookeeper" and more intriguingly, opposite the next and presumably terrible Katherine Heigl film, "One For The Money." We know what we're buying our tickets for that weekend.
