There are few figures in the tech world who captured the public imagination quite like Steve Jobs. As almost zen like presence (at least in public) in an industry of suits and nerds, he made buying technology a near-religious experience, with his keynote speeches and his "one more thing" surprises sending millions scurrying to line up at stores to purchase the next iProduct. His passing was sudden and premature, and his story is the stuff of the American Dream, so it follows that the movies aren't far behind. First out of the gate is "Jobs" with tech-guru and sometime actor Ashton Kutcher carrying the title role.

The Steve Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher is on its way to the big screen. With a release date for "Jobs" right around the corner, audiences are still going to have to decide whether they can buy the guy from “That 70’s Show” as the innovating head of Apple Computers.

Jobs Ashton Kutcher
WWSJD? It's coming on two years since the passing of Apple founder, innovator, guru and game-changer Steve Jobs, and it's still difficult to imagine the tech landscape without him. Blessed with a vision and creativity few in the industry possess with a drive that made him as many friends as enemies, his story is a fascinating one and it's getting told...by Ashton Kutcher... And a new trailer (sort of) is here.

Generally, movies about the technology industry aren't very good and are very few, and outside of "The Social Network," there are even less based on real events. In fact, it kind of says something in certain dork circles, "The Pirates Of Silicon Valley" -- even with its totally '90s casting of Noah Wyle as Steve Jobs and Anthony Michael Hall as Bill Gates -- still stands beloved, even though it's also kind of not very good. But can "Jobs" challenge for the crown? Granted, it doesn't have to leap very high, but you may have to get past Ashton Kutcher as the founder of Apple.

Things are beginning to quiet down in Park City, but the Sundance Film Festival will wrap up this week with "Jobs," the first finished biopic about Apple founder Steve Jobs (Sony is also working on an ambitiously structured project penned by Aaron Sorkin). And while it's slated to hit theaters in the spring, a new clip has arrived that gives you a sense of what Ashton Kutcher is like in the lead role...

While Park City is already starting to empty, don't be fooled, as there are plenty more films to come before things wrap up. And one that many are curious about is "Jobs," the biopic of Steve Jobs with Ashton Kutcher in the lead that premieres as the closing night entry of the Sundance Film Festival. But if you're eager to see it soon, you won't have to wait too long.

As always, there will be no shortage of movies based on real life characters at Sundance. "Lovelace," "The Look Of Love," "Big Sur," "Kill Your Darlings" will be offering up cinematic tales based on true people, but perhaps the most high profile of the batch is "Jobs." Yes, it's the movie where Ashton Kutcher is playing pioneering (and late) founder of Apple, Steve Jobs. And it seems the advance word on this one right now, is mostly around Kutcher's uncanny likeness to the tech hero.

The annals of cinema history have seen many a pair of dueling projects treading over the same ground -- think about the two Truman Capote biopics a few years ago, or the dueling Alfred Hitchcock flicks this past fall. And after the death of Steve Jobs in 2011, two projects have joined that storied history. Whereas one has been moving at a slow and steady pace (the Aaron Sorkin-scripted and sure to be higher-budgeted film), the other, lower-budget and Ashton Kutcher-starring film, “Jobs,” has already been completed and is set for a closing night bow at Sundance. In fact, Deadline is reporting that the latter film now has a distribution deal in place with Open Road.

Yep, it's even more from the Sundance Film Festival with a returning director, a new biopic on a late great, and one of world cinema's most treasured helmers all with something to prove.
