Star Trek: Into Darkness
Cast your mind back four years or so, to stardate early May 2009, and remember a time when J.J Abrams wasn't yet the anointed savior of Hollywood. He had an ever-growing fanbase, and had already been behind at least one bona-fide small screen pop culture phenomenon. But his influence on the big-screen up to that point only extended to a few screenwriting credits, mostly forgotten, a producing credit on disposable sleeper hit "Cloverfield," and directing "Mission: Impossible III," an enjoyable, but somewhat interchangeable entry to the Tom Cruise spy franchise.

Reviews are starting to roll in from overseas, and the verdict so far on J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek Into Darkness"? Well, it's a success. Sure, there are quibbles here and there but by and large, if you're looking for a good popcorn flick that will appeal both to die hard Trekkers or the average guy looking for a Chris Pine sci-fi action movie, this one delivers. So all Paramount can do at this point is make sure as may people as possible see it.

And More From The Actor About 'A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas' & Following In The Footsteps Of George TakeiWhen “Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle” premiered in 2004, it followed in the understated footsteps of films like “How High” and “Half Baked” – in other words, no matter how many spliffs the characters burned, the film itself never quite set the box office on fire. However, it became a sensation on home video and cable repeats, finding a legion of fans. For its two stars, John Cho and Kal Penn, the film was a big breakthrough in their careers, leading to a variety of other projects that, perhaps fortuitously, weren’t as pot-related. Cho landed regular spots on the TV shows "Kitchen Confidential" and "FlashForward," and stepped into the shoes of Hikaru Sulu when J.J. Abrams relaunched "Star Trek" in 2009, while Penn appeared on “House” and guested on “How I Met Your Mother” when he wasn’t working with President Obama in the Office of Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs.

While John Cho is probably still best known as Harold Lee from the "Harold & Kumar" franchise, he's quietly been making strides into bigger and better work, most notably as Sulu is the new "Star Trek" films and from his role on the shortlived "FlashForward." And while the actor waits to get a call to find out what's going on with "Star Trek 2," he's going to spend his summer working on another blockbuster sci-fi pic.
