The Stand Josh Boone
Even though it was already made as a TV miniseries in the 1990s, Stephen King's epic "The Stand" has the sprawling scope befitting a big screen treatment. And indeed, Warner Bros. has been working hard trying to make it happen, with David Yates, Ben Affleck and Scott Cooper all mooted to direct at various points in the past. But earlier this year, the studio locked down the not quite obvious choice of "Stuck In Love" and "The Fault In Our Stars" director Josh Boone. And while this weekend sees him in weepy teen movie mode, the filmmaker promises to bring some big brass ones for this effort.

The Stand Josh Boone
Say you're a studio executive at Disney, and you've got this script on your desk, a script called “Overnight.” It was pitched to you as “ 'Home Alone' in a toy store," with the story following a father and son, who've won a sleepover in a toy store, and defend it against burglars until morning comes—and now it needs a director.

While the young actor of the moment is currently Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis, a couple of other talents in the past few years have earned attention while not being legally able to drink. Shailene Woodley impressed with her breakout turn in "The Descendants" in 2011, while just the year before, Hailee Steinfeld nabbed an Oscar nod for her performance in "True Grit." It's no surprise Hollywood wants to tap that talent, and they're both being sought for the lead in a new project.

Trying to get noticed amongst hundreds of films is tough, and though it premiered last fall at the Toronto International Film Festival, the indie dramedy "Writers" didn't make much of a splash. And while there hasn't been much heard about the film since then, a trailer has wormed its way online, giving a pretty extensive look at the film.

While TIFF will be playing host this year to a number of veteran directors unveiling their latest films, the festival will also be the proving grounds for a handful of first-time filmmakers who will be hoping to make an impression on audiences and the industry. And one of those folks is writer/director Josh Boone, who will be unspooling "Writers" starring Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly, Logan Lerman and Lily Collins. And with its premiere just days away, not only do we have two exclusive new images from the film, but we also got a chance to talk with Boone about making the film and promising soundtrack that's coming with it.
