Five new stills from the film have arrived online, courtesy of Vulture, and now you can check out how the characters look nine years later.

Made nine years apart from each other, Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset" hold a very special place in the hearts of many, in terms of contemporary romances. The first film, released in 1995, saw Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy play twentysomethings who spend a night together in Vienna after meeting by chance on a train. Nine years later, the second film saw them meet up in Paris, older and a little wiser.

The Essentials: Krzysztof Kieslowski

It’s perhaps comical to describe a filmmaker revered in some circles as underrated when they’ve been nominated for some of the biggest prizes in cinema -- the Palme d'Or, Venice’s Golden Lion, the Academy Awards, Berlin’s Golden Bear. But perhaps because Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieslowski never really took many of these major prizes home, and never gained global status until later in his career, we find that the filmmaker is not as revered as we’d like (though he tied for a Golden Lion in 1993). Perhaps this observation is very relative. Perhaps it’s because he didn’t enter the Criterion canon until 2006, perhaps because his career ended too abruptly just as it was truly ascending, or perhaps simply because he’s one of our most adored filmmakers: we routinely never give up an opportunity to celebrate Kieslowski’s work when we can.

It will surprise no one who followed the film’s extremely positive reception at Sundance earlier this year, that Richard Linklater's “Before Midnight” (our review here) has been creating quite a stir on the other side of the pond following its European premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. With many of the journalists we met citing the film as one of their favorite of the festival so far, we got to sit down in a small group with stars and co-writers Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke for what proved to be a fairly riotous interview, in which, while they both maintain repeatedly how unlike their onscreen counterparts they are, certainly the chemistry of old friends was there in spades.

Sundance Review: Love Is Hard In The Charming But Emotionally Challenging 'Before Midnight'

What happened at the cliffhanger ending of 2004's "Before Sunset?" Did Jesse (Ethan Hawke) manage to catch his flight back to the United States or did he and Celine (Julie Delpy) finally re-consummate their nine-year-after-the-fact romance? These questions are answered in Richard Linklater's trilogy-concluding "Before Midnight," a charming and funny, but much more emotionally difficult and pained picture than one might have imagined. Those expecting another swooningly romantic movie are going to be in for a rude awakening. While "Before Midnight" certainly has its appealing moments of allure and levity, it's ultimately more "This Is 40"-style pain with much more honesty and real bite than Judd Apatow would likely ever go for, and when "Before Midnight" bares its fangs and becomes uncomfortable there are few moments of comedic relief or a new jaunty scene to cut to.

Could there be any movie at the Sundance Film Festival more anticipated – perhaps with a bit of nervousness – than Richard Linklater's "Before Midnight"? With the third romantic outing for Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, fans are hoping the film honors the remarkable and beautiful "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset," and undoubtedly, the picture is easily one of the hottest pictures that distributors may end up battling for. We'll soon know how it plays as the film premieres tonight, but until then, here are some new images from the movie.

One of the best and most unexpected diptychs in recent years is Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise"/"Before Sunset." Unexpected because Linklater and his stars and co-writers, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, surely didn't conceive as the films as a trilogy, let alone a sequel. But organically, as each film grew in popularity and the characters resonated for the trio and audiences, they decided to naturally expand the story line. "Before Sunrise" arrived in 1995 and it wasn't until nine years later that the trio created the belated sequel, "Before Sunset."

First up, the rumor was Richard Linklater's "Before Midnight," the supposed follow-up to "Before Sunrise"/"Before Sunset" was unexpectedly shooting in Greece just a few weeks after Julie Delpy told us that the project had a least a year to go before shooting. Ethan Hawke seemed to echo Delpy's sentiments recently: he and Linklater were in Greece only writing the film.

Well, there's good news and bad news. We'll give you the latter first -- despite what looked like a lot of evidence to suggest that the much talked about follow-up to Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset" was now filming in Greece...it's not. However, it is being actively worked on, and while both Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy were spotted around Greece, it seems they are still putting ideas to paper.

In the past little while, buzz has been building strong about Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy reteaming with Richard Linklater to shoot a follow-up to their beloved duo of films, "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset." In June, Hawke let it drop that lensing was going to take place this summer, but when we spoke to Delpy earlier this month, she said it won't be until "sometime in the next year, year and a half," because they're still writing it. But, something is happening, which is prompting a lot of speculation at the moment.
