When we last heard about "Jurassic Park IV," it was back in May, when pre-production was temporarily suspended, or at least reorganized, so the creative team could get a better grasp on the material. The summer 2014 release date, everyone agreed, wasn't feasible. But until then, there wasn't much in the way of news about the project. Until last night, when Universal announced that "Jurassic Park IV" will now be called "Jurassic World" and will open on June 12, 2015. Oh and it's going to be in 3D. Because that's still a thing, apparently.

Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic Park 4
So, if you're really gonna be upset about knowing the (supposed) details of "Jurassic Park 4," then we should probably warn you that there are spoilers ahead. But if you don't sleep with a T-Rex nightlight, well, read on, because if these latest rumors from the internet mean anything even close to true, then the (long-awaited?) followup to "Jurassic Park 3" is gonna rock. Or something.

Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic Park 4
You might remember from last month the semi-dramatic news that "Jurassic Park IV" -- originally and somewhat ambitiously slated for a 2014 release while still scouting locations and without a cast yet to be revealed -- went on hold in order that director Colin Trevorrow and co. could have "adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment." Well, it looks like they're getting all the time in the world.

Sam Neill Is Under The Impression That The New 'Jurassic Park' Will Be A Reboot

To paraphrase the great screenwriter and novelist William Goldman: nobody knows anything about "Jurassic Park 4." The core creative principles are known, of course, with "Safety Not Guaranteed" director Colin Trevorrow working from a script written by the husband-and-wife team of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes"), possibly based in part on a screenplay that Mark Protosevich ("I Am Legend") wrote for Steven Spielberg in 2011. But plot specifics and casting decisions have yet to see the light of day, despite the announcement that production was being delayed slightly. But Sam Neill, who starred in the original film and the underwhelming "Jurassic Park III," thinks that he knows what's going on: it's going to be a reboot. And honestly, if you can't trust Sam Neill, who can you trust?

Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic Park 4
Last night, the Twittersphere had a minor eruption when word began circulating that "Jurassic Park IV" might possibly be canceled. Bot the film’s Digital Asset Manager Todd Smoyer and Concept Artist Dean Sherriff sent out (since deleted) tweets (view them via /Film) indicating that the movie was "on hold" or possibly worse. Well, the good news is that it hasn't been canceled, but there does seem to be some minor turmoil behind-the-scenes.

Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic Park 4
It seems pretty cute to think about the time when "Safety Not Guaranteed" helmer Colin Trevorrow was rumored to direct "Star Wars: Episode 7," but another mammoth sequel is now in his lap, with fanboy expectations that will certainly be very high.

While J.J. Abrams seems to have no problem multitasking between two mega sci-fi franchises, not to mention his numerous producer gigs on projects for both television and the big screen, Lucasfilm honcho Kathleen Kennedy is keeping her eye firmly on Luke Skywalker and co.

Sometimes you get what you wish for. Last summer, producer Frank Marshall said he was hoping the forever-developing "Jurassic Park 4" would hit theaters in 2014, and how just about six months later, it looks like that's exactly what's going to happen.

Is it time to start humming that immense John Williams theme in our heads again? It has been over a decade since our last trip to Jurassic Park with Dr. Alan Grant, but it seems like we’re edging closer and closer to heading back there again. It won't be with Steven Spielberg at the helm again (but he’ll of course produce through Amblin), and just last month we heard that “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver were being handed the task of penning "Jurassic Park IV." At the time we pondered whether they’d be starting from scratch or working from the barmy John Sayles script or a more recent Mark Protosevich draft, but we never stopped to wonder how soon we might be seeing “Jurassic Park IV.”

We suppose it was only a matter of time before those big wooden doors emblazoned with the text “Jurassic Park” would swing open once more for all the world to see – and now it looks as if that moment is creeping up on us.
