Bourne 5
Perhaps it was inevitable, and maybe too good to be true. Latino Review has been on a hot streak of movie scoops of late, but perhaps their latest just got stymied. The rumor, as of late last night, was that the 5th Untitled Bourne Film, now delayed until summer 2016, was held over because Matt Damon would be returning to the fold as Jason Bourne to cross paths with new ‘Bourne’ franchise actor Jeremy Renner. Longtime Producer Frank Marshall has said in the past having Renner and Damon in the same ‘Bourne’ film would be his ultimate dream, but apparently that’s not happening for the next movie.

The Bourne Legacy, Renner,
We literally were just talking about the fate of this one at the water cooler this morning. For most tentpoles, on average, you don’t want less than a year from shooting to release. Smart studios try to add in a year and a half for safety , some studios like 20th Century Fox tend to rush things (see “X-Men: The Last Stand,” and “X-Men: First Class”) and some studios just wisely push off the date when they’re not ready. Marvel’s “Ant-Man” was recently cutting it close which is why they were in full-speed mode to find a new director to shoot this summer and have the film meet their target release date of summer 2015. Had they not found Peyton Reed as a director, or any replacement, that movie surely would have been pushed to 2016.

The Bourne Legacy
As we just noted the other day, the ‘Bourne’ franchisedirection is moving in a very different direction from its original pedigree. Not only are Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass long gone, but so is the series writing architect Tony Gilroy. “The Bourne Legacy” offshoot starring Jeremy Renner wasn’t quite the immense hit that Universal wanted and so the studio went another way.

Lethal Weapon Chris Hemsworth Justin Lin
We've long known that Warner Bros. was planning some kind of remake/reboot of "Lethal Weapon" — along with a bunch of other titles in their catalog —and at one point "Gangster Squad" writer Will Beall was tapped to pen the script. And we basically haven't heard anything in a few years, but today some fresh rumors suggest this thing is back in motion in a big way.

Community Justin Lin
It looks like the one-time gag, "six seasons and a movie" could actually be a very real thing. The NBC comedy "Community," which has never grown beyond a devoted cult fan base, always teetering on the edge of being canceled due to low ratings, could actually make it to the big screen. At least if this latest report is in any way accurate.

For a brief moment, Doug Liman was flirting with more serious fare, developing projects like "Attica," an adaptation of Olen Steinhauer's "The Tourist," the documentary "Reckoning With Torture: Memos And Testimonies From The War On Terror" and a big-screen version of Jack Finney's "Time And Again." But we'd wager in today's climate that kind of stuff is hard to get off the ground, so no surprise that in the past he was also linked to the comedy "El Presidente" with Tom Cruise and the former Tony Scott project, "Narco Sub." And for his next gig, he's stepping right up to the blockbuster world again for a big-time video game adaptation.

Yeah, we saw this coming.... earlier this week we posted our review of the Sundance documentary, "Battered Bastards Of Baseball," and within, our own Katie Walsh declared, "you will start fantasy casting the near-inevitable Hollywood remake of this story." And indeed some studio execs are already doing just that.

The Shaolin Temple
While Justin Lin's next gig will be revving up "Bourne 5" for release next year, he hasn't stopped adding projects to his potential slate. Indeed, over the past year or so, Lin's name has become linked with no shortage of projects of various size and scope, but none of them are quite like this.

Bourne Legacy
Well, if there was any doubt about negotiations or deal points, squash them now: “Fast & Furious 6” helmer Justin Lin is 100% confirmed to direct the fifth and currently untitled installment in the ‘Bourne’ franchise.

Bourne 5, Justin Lin
Well, you gotta at least give credit where credit is due. With both Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon bouncing from the franchise after "The Bourne Ultimatum," Universal went to series guru Tony Gilroy to write and direct "The Bourne Legacy." And the result was a brainier, less frenetic, slightly more thoughtful approach. It didn't quite work. At least not with audiences who turned out to see Jeremy Renner as the newly controlled agent, but not quite in the numbers a franchise four movies in should expect. So now they're calling in the big guns.
