Tomorrow at the Tribeca Film Festival, producer Rick Rubin and Kanye West will be receiving an award on behalf the Roland RT-808 (no we don't know exactly what that means either) as part of the Disruptive Innovation Awards. Sadly, they won't be on hand to attend, but they send this video instead. And it's awesome.

Divergent
"One of the great creative breakthroughs we had was that we, talking to Neil Burger the director, really looked at Kanye's Yeezus record and 'Black Skinhead' in particular and said, 'You know what, musically this sounds like the world of Dauntless,' " music supervisor Randall Poster told MTV News recently referring to brash parties in the "Divergent" universe. And thus the musical guide for the soundtrack was born.

Kanye West Yeezus
Yes, he's got a big mouth, bigger ego and can let himself get in the way of his undeniable talent, but Kanye West knows how to put on a show. His current Yeezus tour is certainly a sensation, a massive spectacle, with costumes, lights and yes, great songs. And if you think it's positively cinematic, well, there's some good news for you.

 Kanye West’s “Bound 2
The music video, when executed well, can arguably be a form of small-screen cinema. Hell, we recently discussed ten filmmakers who made the leap from the world of music videos into the world of feature-length narrative moviemaking and that list is long and arguably well-documented. Well, if a music video can be art, this Nick Night-directed video (he’s a British fashion photographer) is pretty much the opposite. Read More »

Anton Yelchin Kate Mara After The Disco
Indie bands doing short films is kinda so hot right now. As it becomes increasingly challenging to get noticed above the fray, bands have taken to the medium to give fans and newcomers alike a different way of entry for their music. Of course, Arcade Fire teamed with Spike Jonze for "The Suburbs," while Beach House took the more DIY route and made "Forever Still" themselves. And now a couple more bands are stepping towards cinema with interesting results.

While Mary Harron's Christian Bale-starring adaptation of "American Psycho" has become a cult favorite, author Bret Easton Ellis has never been a fan of her movie. While not exceedingly critical, he's long said his novel is unfilmable, and currently doing the rounds for "The Canyons," he again underscores how the core of 'Psycho' was compromised when it was brought to the big screen.

The lead-up of Kanye West's sixth album Yeezus was swift and minimal— songs cobbled into form by Rick Rubin, non-existent cover art and promotion via B&W clips projected onto buildings. The only other big publicity came courtesy of an slightly painful “American Psycho” parody with reality star Scott Disick. And after it was revealed that none other than Bret Easton Ellis wrote the piece it seems that the original novel's author and West may have additional material in the works.

Holy Yeezus. Rapper, producer, fashion design, art enthusiast and more, we actually had no idea that Kanye West had aspirations to be a comedian too, but alas it seems he did. And the evidence, which has been sitting online for nearly three years, is starting to make the rounds, and it's pretty amazing/weird stuff.
