Remakes and reboots always seem to demand comparisons to their predecessors, but “Dredd” evokes a slightly different relationship: What Zack Snyder’s “Dawn of the Dead” is to George Romero’s original, Pete Travis’ film is to, no, not Danny Cannon’s 1995 film “Judge Dredd,” but Paul Verhoeven’s “Robocop.” In both cases, gifted visual stylists took fertile, socially-conscious subject matter, pared out the cultural commentary, and left behind an engaging, if empty, cinematic experience.

Judgement is indeed coming for "Dredd" and that judgement may not be all good. The upcoming dystopian thriller has not been handled well from minute one outside of hiring Alex Garland ("28 Days Later," "Sunshine") to pen the screenplay and even that may not have helped. Some ask why anyone bothered to make a remake of the Sylvester Stallone’s movie "Judge Dredd," and producers countered that they were going back to the source material and making things -- wait for it -- darker, more violent and more humorous like the comic book.

So...a trailer soon? With the film said to be hitting theaters in three months, there was been dead silence around the somewhat-troubled comic reboot "Dredd." No trailers and only a smattering of images, a few more which have now landed online.

The last time we heard anything about "Dredd" it was about the supposed scuttlebutt between director Pete Travis and writer Alex Garland, who were apparently feuding, with the latter said to be angling to nab a director's credit on the movie, while the former was apparently kicked out of the editing bay. A few days later, assurances were profferred that everything is fine, but little had been heard of since, but with the movie gearing up to hit theaters this fall, it looks like the marketing campaign is beginning to roll out.

'Game Of Thrones' Star Emilia Clarke Circling Female LeadThanks to "Leon" director Luc Besson, the French have proved in recent years that they're able to produce English-language action-movies just as slam-bang and stupid as anything that Hollywood can come up with. Kicking off with the Jet Li vehicle "Kiss of the Dragon" and the Jason Statham series "The Transporter," Besson and co. have nailed the art of making a cheap, quick actioner, chucking in a few B-list American names, financing it through pre-sales, and making a tidy sum of money, helping to launch the careers of directors Louis Leterrier and Pierre Morel, and putting Liam Neeson firmly on the A-list with international smash "Taken."

We'll leave that for you to decide, but just a few days after hitting his Facebook page with concept art, talk of an R-rating and a 2012 release, that entire post has been removed. Hmm. So just bear that in mind as we get to this next piece of news.
