Vampire Academy
“Vampire Academy” is the newest young adult adaptation that hopes to take the country by storm this upcoming Valentine’s Day. Directed by Mark Waters (“Mean Girls”) and scripted by Daniel Waters (“Heathers”), the tone of the latest trailer seems to suggest that the movie will at least try to have fun with its dopey premise which will hopefully set it apart from “The Mortal Instruments,” “Beautiful Creatures,” and the upcoming "Divergent.” Nevertheless, no young adult adaptation is complete without an accompanying soundtrack of “dark” and “edgy” pop music and “Vampire Academy” has given us just that.

Blade Runner Katy Perry
While "Blade Runner 2" is still a worrisome specter on the horizon for fans of the original, gaining "Green Lantern" writer Michael Green to pen the screenplay this past spring, it's still so far away (Ridley Scott's next film is the Moses flick "Exodus") that it's mostly rumor and speculation that's going to drive news of the movie for the next little while. It will also give budding actors and actresses a chance to openly campaign for roles in the movie, and one starlet isn't missing an opportunity.

Weekend Box Office: 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Tops Weekend, Hauls $140 Million Over 6 Days

Here are some facts, without spin. The opening $64 million weekend of "The Amazing Spider-Man" is less than that of "Spider-Man 2" by about $24 million. The $140 million it has registered since it's release on Tuesday is overshadowed by the first three days of "Spider-Man 3," at $151 million. And with even ten years of inflation and enhanced 3D prices, "The Amazing Spider-Man" has yet to have a period at all like the then-record-breaking $115 million opening take of "Spider-Man." But nonetheless, these results are a huge success for Sony, and certainly they'll be happy with with the foundation laid down for what they hope will be a new trilogy of films.

Happy belated Independence Day, movie fans! Now that the barbeques, firecrackers, and sunburns have subsided, we can’t think of a better way to ring in America’s 236th birthday than with a trip to the theater. This weekend, you can celebrate with an excursion high above the New York skyline, competition in an amateur Olympic event, and a shootout with drug dealers. Or perhaps you prefer a haunted house? And all while Katy Perry’s “Firework” rings out across the twilight’s last gleaming. Happy Fourth (or, you know, Sixth)!

Review: 'Katy Perry: Part Of Me' Pulls You Into The Performer's DayGlo World

Katy Perry is a pop sensation like few others in the cultural landscape of 2012 – less arty and pretentious than Lady Gaga, more wholesome and sweet than Rihanna – she is the wayward daughter of a pair of Pentecostal preachers, one who has succeeded with a sugar-sexy shtick that teases just enough to get your blood up, but never enough to be tacky or obscene. And "Katy Perry: Part of Me," is a movie like few others. It's ostensibly a concert movie about her 2011 world tour that digs surprisingly deep into biographical material and comes up with the portrait of an artist as a young, heartsick woman. It's not exactly "Madonna: Truth or Dare." No, this is much more colorful, in every sense of the word.

Better batten down the hatches! "The Dark Knight Rises" has now landed an official rating and it's not that shocking, fully expected PG-13. The MPAA warns viewers the movie contains "intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language." In other news, the sky is blue and grass in green.

Does anyone still listen to Paul Potts? In case you forgot, he made a brief cultural splash a few years ago when he showed up on "Britain's Got Talent" and wowed audiences Susan Boyle-style, leading to a brief run of concerts and fame, before everyone moved to something else. But a movie about his life was in the works anyway, and the last we heard about it was all the way back in the fall of 2010, when "The Devil Wears Prada" director David Frankel was attached to direct. Well, belive it or not, this thing is still happening.

Who the fuck listens to Katy Perry? We sure don't but clearly, a lot of you do, as the pop singer nabbed her sixth number one single for "The One That Got Away" off her album Teenage Dream released in the summer of 2010. Whoever the team is at Capitol Records behind this girl, give them a raise: talk about getting major mileage out of the most disposable music ever. But wait -- there's even more coming.
