For anyone who has managed to go through their entire adult life without having seen “Dirty Dancing”: it's less a 1987 film about a seventeen year-old girl procreating with a lascivious Patrick Swayze, than a colossus that continues to bestride the world of cinema, distorting young boys’ and girls’ perception of romance along with it. Its drawbacks as a work of art, which are myriad, obvious and not really worth dwelling on, pale in comparison to the film’s continued profitability; if we needed further evidence of that, Deadline are reporting Lionsgate can provide it, as they have now tapped writer Maria Maggenti to pen an upcoming remake.

It really doesn't matter if you like the film or not; there is no denying that "Dirty Dancing" is an '80s classic and staple, an Oscar winner (Best Original Song for "(I've Had the) Time of My Life") and still a current pop culture reference point (a portion of Ryan Gosling's pick up routine in "Crazy Stupid Love" revolves entirely around the movie). But hey, why watch the original when you can have a second rate remake, right?

Biopic On His Younger Years Also In The WorksEven though he's since passed on, that hasn't stopped Michael Jackson from being a moonwalking money making machine. The pop singer earned a staggering $275 million last year from beyond the grave, topping the Top Earning Dead Celebrity list (yes, someone actually keeps track of this). But the gravy train won't stop there as plans are afoot to turn "Thriller" into a feature length movie.
