So, do you have room for one more superhero movie this summer? Iron Man and Superman have dashed up onto the big screen, this weekend Wolverine gets his claws out, and closing the chapter on the summer of spandex is "Kick-Ass 2." And with the movie a few weeks away, a couple new clips have arrived to provide a peek at the R-rated mayhem that's brewing.

Kick Ass 2
The things one expects from "Kick-Ass 2" are fairly simple: foul language, over-the-top violence and a firm embrace of the R-rating. But a promo video by boy band group Union J? Perhaps there's some crossover demographic we're just not aware of, but this is certainly a bit odd...

So...generous promotion or simply showing every good moment of a movie before it's due in theatres? We'll let you guys decide, but we're leaning toward the latter, because this brand new, four-and-a-half-minute red band trailer for "Kick-Ass 2" hardly leaves any surprises for when the the flick drops next month.

Kick Ass 2
Next month, the kids and young adults of "Kick-Ass" are back for more foul-mouthed, envelope-pushing action and to help in their quest to stop The Motherfucker, they've got a batch of rockin' tunes to push their adventures to the max. So who's along for the ride?

The release of “Man of Steel” has incited quite the debate over destruction and character motivation (Max Landis recently weighed in on the matter), but “Kick-Ass 2” looks to cloud it out two months before it opens with a growing case of mis-portrayal. The comic book sequel came under scrutiny this week when one of its stars, Jim Carrey, denounced the film's violence and withdrew his support for its release, and following a shocked response by creator Mark Millar, the studio behind the film has now offered their take.

A big part of summer movie madness isn't just the films, but the press hoopla that precedes them, with stars traveling the globe and high-fiving fans and journalists everywhere to help drum up support for their blockbuster. But one curious absence from the festivities over the coming week will be Jim Carrey, as he's publicly declared he won't be making the rounds for "Kick-Ass 2."

The Playlist's Most Anticipated Blockbusters Of The 2013 Summer Season
Ah, summer. That time of year marked by long days, short skirts, and the application of sunscreen. It’s the season where even the most hardened cineaste can put aside their Criterion Collection discs, if only for a moment, and get excited about the jazzy, visual effects-driven blockbusters coming down the pike. The line between “summer” and “any other time of the year,” in terms of movies, keeps getting blurrier and blurrier, with big-budget studio fare like “Oz the Great and Powerful” and “Oblivion” coming out in the spring (we had a Michael Bay movie open in April, for crying out loud – before this it was questionable whether or not he even existed outside of June or July).

Kick Ass 2, Chloe Moretz,
It looks like Spider-Man isn't the only superhero that's going to find high school to be an awkward experience. When we catch up with Mindy Macready in this summer's "Kick-Ass 2," she'll be doing her best to fit in, but it looks like the skills of her alter ego will help in finding a place among her teenage peers.

Lo-fi, featuring stars that weren't household names and stamped with an R-rating, "Kick-Ass" gleefully twisted the superhero genre on its head to the tune of $96 million worldwide. Given all the factors above, that's quite a feat and, no doubt boosted by home video exposure, a sequel was greenlit. But can lightning strike twice? Will director Jeff Wadlow be an adequate stand-in for Matthew Vaughn? Well, see for yourself as the first trailer for "Kick-Ass 2" has arrived.
