After a first poster that didn't even show the title, Universal has realized that people need to the know the name of a movie if they are going to buy tickets and so they have dropped a rather plain poster for "Zero Dark Thirty."

While the trailer for "Killing Them Softly" may feature Johnny Cash, the movie itself goes for a different musical angle all together. Andrew Dominik's searing and scathing film takes a select batch of tunes ranging from pop standards to rock 'n' roll classics and uses them distinctly, powerfully and usually ironically to help spin his tale of a heist gone wrong in a crumbling America.

Brad Pitt is notoriously hard to net for a film. He'll sign on to a lot of projects and even produce, but getting the man to star in a picture when all is said and done can prove to be difficult. Aussie director Andrew Dominik had a leg-up. He directed Pitt in the underrated "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford," a movie that Pitt has said he lost money making, but is one of his personal favorite films. So how did Dominik get Pitt to sign on for his latest film, the American crime drama "Killing Them Softly"? "It was all very simple. I texted Brad, asking if he was interested, and he wrote back 'Yes,' "  Dominik told EW recently. "We basically worked the whole thing out via text message over half an hour."

While certain parts of the world are gearing up for the release of Andrew Dominik's crime parable "Killing Them Softly," which picked up mostly stellar reviews when it premiered at Cannes back in May -- the film opens in the UK, Ireland and Spain on September 21st, he said smugly -- it looks like U.S. audiences are going to have to hang on a little while longer to see the Australian director's follow-up to "The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford."

As you might've gleaned by now, Andrew Dominik's "Killing Them Softly" is not your average movie about low lifes and gangsters. When we caught the film at Cannes, we called it "breathtakingly brilliant and admirably ambitious" as as well as "angry" with the filmmaker painting not just a story about about the fate of some hoods who knock off a mob-protected poker game, but a portrait of America itself as it rots from the inside.

Ok, the creative marketing gurus over at The Weinstein Company were not working overtime when they created this new poster for "Killing Them Softly." Then again, maybe they were going for a much-less-is-more approach and making sure -- in case you were unaware -- that good ol' A-lister Brad Pitt stars.

After making the beautiful and ethereal anti-western "The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford," Andrew Dominik took a bit of time away, and now five years later he returns with a wholly different film, the angry, caustic, funny and riveting "Killing Them Softly."

While much of the hype on The Weinstein Company's fall slate has centered around Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained," Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" and David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook," one film still flying well under the radar is Andrew Dominik's "Killing Them Softly" starring Brad Pitt. Though it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this spring, and has a new October release date now set (essentially swapping places with PTA's movie), it's still the only film of the bunch without a trailer. So until then, some images will have to do.

Well, this is interesting. It was just this morning that the The Playlist honchos were talking "The Master" over cups of coffee, and wondering what Harvey Weinstein's gameplan would be. With the film not appearing in the Venice or TIFF lineups, and with rumors of a Fantastic Fest showing, would it be possible that Paul Thomas Anderson's highly anticipated film would be skipping the festival circuit altogether? While Harv knows how to work festivals to his awards season advantage, PTA has never been that huge on the whole process, pretty much forgoing it entirely for "There Will Be Blood" (save a premiere at the aforementioned geek haunt in Austin). But now there's another twist...
