This weekend, a young girl goes into the woods and comes out covered in blood after 90 minutes or so of sheer mayhem. And while "Carrie" may not have to employ the use of a chainsaw, she's got some other powers on hand that nonetheless will still leave things ending just as red.

But for "Carrie" director Kimberly Pierce she's taking on something that might be her most provocative movie yet, which is saying something considering she's the filmmaker behind transgendered drama "Boys Don't Cry" and Iraq war flick "Stop-Loss."

New York Comic Con, like most every other comic book, sci-fi or fantasy convention on planet Earth, is notoriously a boys club, designed chiefly for adolescent males (or the adolescent males in grown men). But on Saturday, Comic Con got a much-needed blast of feminine fresh air, as the stars and director of the upcoming "Carrie" remake took the stage at the IGN Theater – Julianne Moore, director Kimberly Peirce, and Chloe Grace Moretz were on hand as was producer Kevin Misher. They talked about the differences in this film to the Brian De Palma original, how much they adored the Stephen King source material, and how many gallons of blood was used. They also showed a brand-new teaser that gives good hints at what's to come.

It would seem that, for whatever reason, folks are more curious than wary about Kimberly Peirce's remake of Brian De Palma's classic adaptation of Stephen King's "Carrie." Whatever the outcome may be, we're guessing that curiosity will continue to win out with the arrival of the impressive first official look at Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore, who'll be starring as timid high-schooler Carrie White and her fundamentalist mother Margaret respectively -- roles portrayed in De Palma's originally by Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

With Kimberly Peirce currently busy filming a remake of Brian De Palma's horror classic "Carrie," it looks like she's cast her eye on another redo, this time on something a bit more contemporary from across the pond. Variety reports that Peirce is now attached to direct a remake of the hit French thriller "With a Friend Like Harry."

Well, whether you like it or not, the "Carrie" remake is happening, but it's hard to deny the talent being assembled is pretty compelling. "Boys Don't Cry" helmer Kimberly Peirce is getting behind the camera, with Chloe Moretz playing the bullied high school girl who unleashes her telekinetic powers after she gets pushed too far. And while there is no denying that Brian De Palma's film is a stone cold classic, we're curious to see what direction this iteration will take.

We were just having a conversation around The Playlist's office pinball machine this week ("Ghostbusters 2"-branded, in case you were wondering) about whatever happened to director Phil Morrison, who helmed the excellent "Junebug" back in 2006 (launching the career of Amy Adams in the process) only to seemingly disappear from the scene, with only a recent credit on HBO's "Enlightened" to his name. And then, barely 24 hours later, the news arrived that Morrison was back, with the comedy "Lucky Dog," which will star Paul Rudd, Paul Giamatti and Sally Hawkins.

Well, as far as decisions regarding beloved films being callously remade, it could be a lot worse than MGM and Screen Gems tapping "Boys Don't Cry" director Kimberly Peirce for their big screen redux of Stephen King's telekenetic horror show "Carrie." The 1976 original film, as we all know, was directed by Brian De Palma and is, more or less (the "less" is that sped-up scene where the guys are trying on the tuxes), a masterpiece.

After not hearing from her for a while, Kimberly Peirce is ready to direct "The Knife," a drama of a South Central gang member-turned-paid FBI informant, for Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment. Apparently, this man's collaboration with the Feds turned over many criminals, including drug lords and murderers. He was so successful that leaders of gangs put out a "kill all snitches" order, placing the informant's life in danger. The premise is based on a true story adapted from the 2008 article "The Inside Man" in GQ Magazine by Guy Lawson. Black List and Nicholl Fellowship-winning screenwriter Vineet Dewan ("Sand Dogs") will pen the script with Brian Grazer ("A Beautiful Mind") producing. The studio first acquired the rights to the article when it came out, but the project has been buried for the past two years.
