Pompeii
With a reported budget somewhere in the neighborhood of $80 to $100 million dollars, there is no doubt where the money went in "Pompeii," the ancient Italian city laid to no uncertain waste in Paul W.S. Anderson's film. When you plunk down your $12, you will get the destruction you promised. But it's too bad it's such a repetitive, unengaging, glaringly digital experience and worse than that, you'll have to sit through the disaster that is the rest of movie, a turgid gladiator drama, with acting so wooden, we'd wager that the script co-credited to "Downton Abbey" scribe Julian Fellowes (who we can only imagine saw his draft thoroughly rewritten by the other three writers on this into something more pedestrian) is good for kindling. Lots of things burn in "Pompeii," but nothing resembling drama, tension, excitement or entertainment.

Pompeii
'Tis the season for shirtless bronzed dudes running and yelling, in olden times, as CGI effects fill the screen. Last month, Kellan Lutz beefed up "The Legend Of Hercules," next month Eva Green and Sullivan Stapleton will shout a lot in "300: Rise Of An Empire" and this month, cinematic auteur Paul W.S. Anderson brings us the volcanic "Pompeii."

Tom Hiddleston Ben Wheatley HIgh Rise
Prolific as he is, Ben Wheatley's films to date generally haven't featured much in the way of star power, but it was only a matter of time until bigger names started circling his work. And indeed, his next effort will find Loki himself coming along for the ride.

Guys, it's the trailer for the new film by Paul Anderson! . . . No, not that one. Instead, it's the auteur behind a couple "Resident Evil" movies, "The Three Musketeers" and "Death Race," and he's back once again. And this time, he's getting volcanic. Literally.

Given the suddenly prodigious production rate the Icelandic atmospheric rockers Sigur Ros are working at these days, it's hard to believe that frontman Jonsi has time for anything else. With the band dropping two albums in the past two years -- 2012's Valtari and 2013's Kveikur -- while touring, commissioning music videos and more, it seems that the otherwordly singer is dipping his toes back in the movie biz. In 2011, he scored Cameron Crowe's "We Bought A Zoo" and while we wait for them to reteam on the director's next effort, Jonsi is returning to the animated world.
