As you know, there are approximately five thousand actors who have walked onto the set and in front of a camera for Terrence Malick's next effort "Knight Of Cups," a drama set against the backdrop of the movie industry, one of two features he's prepping along with a still untitled flick that takes place amongst the Austin music scene. And one of the talents that got to spend some time with Malick on 'Cups' was rising Australian actress Teresa Palmer, who was last seen onscreen in the zombie rom-com "Warm Bodies" and features in the upcoming thriller "Wish You Were Here." And like many who have collaborated with the press shy filmmaker, she wholeheartedly enjoyed the experience.

We were a bit depressed about the reception to "To The Wonder." When Terrence Malick's latest premiered in Venice last year, we found it beguiling and beautiful, and arguably superior to his previous picture "The Tree Of Life." But the critical consensus didn't agree with us, and the film picked up some harsh notices, and in the month since it was released, has made only $500,000 at the U.S. box office.

Terrence Malick’s Editor Billy Weber Says 'Knight of Cups' Won’t Be As Dialogue-Free & Experimental As 'To The Wonder'

Billy Weber, Terrence Malick
While at this year’s TCM Classic Film Festival, we had the chance to sit down with Billy Weber, Terrence Malick’s longtime editor. Beginning his editing career on the cult horror flick “Messiah of Evil,” Weber went on to work with directors ranging from Malick to Martin Scorsese (“Taxi Driver”) to Tony Scott (“Top Gun”). Meeting Malick as an editing assistant on “Badlands,” the two have become decades-long friends and worked together on four more films spanning over forty years -- “Days of Heaven,” “The Thin Red Line” and “The Tree of Life.” Being close to the enigmatic director, Weber gave us some insight on Malick’s upcoming projects, although Weber won’t be involved in either, and laid some rumors to rest. As we shared last week, Weber revealed that Malick is working on a director’s cut for "The Tree of Life.” Here are a few more things we gleaned from that conversation.

To The Wonder, Actors Cut From Malick Films
We’ve all been there. Cast as the lead in a meaty, dialogue-heavy role in a surefire masterpiece from one of the most unassailable geniuses of modern filmmaking, only to be reduced to sifting through the finished film on freeze frame occasionally shouting "Look! That’s my shadow on that fern!" or "Hey! That’s the back of my head near that egret!" The one comfort we can take when this inevitability occurs, is that we’re in fine company on the Malick cutting room floor. The only question is, whose lead will we follow in reacting to our role’s excision or drastic reduction?

It would seem that as Terrence Malick has increased his workflow, some of the goodwill he's had for decades has slightly eroded. The director's latest effort "To The Wonder" recently played both Venice and TIFF where it mostly received unenthusiastic notices, with many tiring of his let's-go-explore-the-wheatfields style. And it's not a surprise it's still without a U.S. distribution deal. As for us, our man in Venice dug the film and this writer saw it in Toronto and, though it's problematic, found much to digest in the movie that, to the viewer willing to look past the surface, asks a lot of big questions. In particular, how we can share or experience love in a world abandoned by God. Weighty stuff. But anyway, Malick is already on to his next two films, and a very small morsel of info concerning "Knight Of Cups" has emerged.

Terrence Malick's recent burst of creative energy is sort of staggering. After completing just four films in forty-two years, he has dropped two films in two years (2011's "The Tree of Life" and 2012's "To the Wonder"), with "Knight of Cups" wrapping up, "Lawless" about to begin and an ambitious documentary that is still being worked on. Screen Daily talked to Malick's producers, Sarah Green and Nicolas Gonda, about his recent endeavors (including "To the Wonder," which just premiered in Venice – our man on the scene loved it) and what's going on with the movie Malick is currently tinkering with (including when we can expect that documentary).

Here's how we imagine Shea Whigham managed to snag a role that may or may not end up being in the final cut of Terrence Malick's "Knight Of Cups" when it gets released in....oh, let's say 2015. Dude probably woke up, and ambled his badass self down to a local coffee joint to grab his morning cup when he saw some cameras rolling and a few trucks and personnel standing by. Curious, he grabbed his coffee and muffin to go (he was hungry) to see if he knew anybody on the production and just to check out what was going on. Then, emerging from an ethereal mist, Malick materialized, whispered in his ear and ten minutes later, Whigham found himself trading lines with Christian Bale.

Seen everywhere from Paul Oakenfold's DJ decks to frolicking on the beachfront with Christian Bale and beautiful actresses in tow, director Terrence Malick has seemingly conjured up non-stop momentum with his latest, “Knight of Cups,” never hinting where or who it will land next. So it went earlier this week with “Snabba Cash” actor Joel Kinnaman finding a part in the film, and now with the Weinsteins' latest release, “Lawless,” coming to theatres soon, an actor from that film has revealed his involvement in the sprawling production.

Who does he think he is? Woody Allen? It seems Terrence Malick is using his engimatic appeal and auteur status to basically get whoever the hell he wants for "Knight Of Cups." It seems that if you happen to be nearby where he's shooting, and you're a celebrity, you can get a part in the film. And another name has joined the ranks.

We've already seen an endless number of cast members so far revealed by set photos and/or Twitter -- Wes Bentley, Imogen Poots, Freida Pinto, Teresa Palmer -- with one more name now coming  coming aboard.
