Press Conference TIFF 2013
If you are stuck having to watch all the Toronto International Film Festival action from the sidelines, fret not—another aspect of the festival will now come straight to your computer screen. The overlong, occasionally awkward press conferences that accompany each of the big films at TIFF have been uploaded to YouTube, so you can squirm in your seat while pretending to not play Candy Crush like the rest of the journalists in the room. This is literally hours of material, from big marquee titles like "Gravity," "12 Years a Slave," "Prisoners," "Labor Day," "Enough Said" and more. It's like you're there! Only not.

Labor Day
Jason Reitman's "Labor Day" just got out of press screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival and so perfectly timed, the debut clip from the film has arrived. Starring Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin and 14-year-old Gattlin Griffith (Clint Eastwood's "Changeling"), "Labor Day" is based on Joyce Maynard's book of the same name and centers on an escaped convict (Brolin), who takes refuge of the home of a depressed, single mother (Winslet) while the cops are out on a manhunt in the nearby town.

Labor Day, Kate Winslet ,Josh Brolin
Short of helming a "Smurfs" sequel, it's tough to imagine writer-director Jason Reitman going for a greater change of pace than he has with "Labor Day," a full-immersion exercise in the old-fashioned women's weepie that skews far closer to Nicholas Sparks' brand of contrivance than Diablo Cody territory. Give him credit for breaking with trademark satirical impulses so completely that counting the laughs in his self-penned script — based on a 2010 Joyce Maynard novel — doesn't require two hands. But the (sorry) laboriousness of the plot's romance-novel machinations ensures there'll be at least a few dry eyes in the house.

Labor Day, Kate Winslet ,Josh Brolin
In case you missed it this morning, TIFF unveiled their first wave of titles, and they basically went to IMDB, looked up any remaining movies left in 2014 that you might be looking forward to, and them in their lineup. Okay, maybe that's a bit extreme but it's an incredible slate this year, and now we're starting to see some first look images of the movies that will making their way to Toronto.

We're closing on the mid-way point to the year, with several of 2013's biggest movies already in theaters, but as fast as films hit theaters, the studios nab future release dates sometimes years away, hoping to stake their claim on key territory. And last night, the release calendar just got three new additions across the next couple of years.

Tobey Maguire's career in recent years resembles a guy who won the lottery. Between 2002 and 2007, the period of the three Sam Raimi-led "Spider-Man" films, the now-37-year-old actor only worked on two films in between the trilogy -- "Seabiscuit" and the supporting role in "The Good German." Post "Spider-Man 3," the actor has all of three credits on screen. The voice work he did for "Beyond All Boundaries," his severely underrated performance in Jim Sheridan's "Brothers" and "The Details," a Weinstein Company indie that was shown at Sundance in 2011 which the studio is apparently releasing this fall via their VOD Radius shingle.

With "Young Adult" barely out of our minds, lensing is excitingly already underway on Jason Reitman's next directorial effort, an adaptation of Joyce Maynard's coming-of-age story "Labor Day." The project has now added a trio of talent with Alexie Gilmore ("World's Greatest Dad"), Lucas Hedges ("Moonrise Kingdom") and Brooke Smith ("Grey's Anatomy") all joining in unnamed supporting roles. The story centers on an escaped convict (Josh Brolin) who is taken in by a depressed single mother (Kate Winslet) and her teen son (Gattlin Griffith) over a Labor Day weekend with Clark Gregg, Tom Lipinski, Maika Monroe, Brighid Fleming and James Van Der Beek also co-starring.
