When Roland Emmerich makes a movie, more often than not you can bet that he’s going to go big. You could say that he’s a filmmaker who prefers an epic scale, and an argument could be made that he’s actually modern cinema’s equivalent to a David Lean. Okay, okay, we jest… but trust Emmerich of all people to look at a classic Lean epic and decide that of all things, he’s going to make it bigger.

Martin Scorsese turns 70 on Friday, and the man has never been busier. In the midst of a multitude of projects, he's currently shooting his next feature, "The Wolf Of Wall Street," but of course, he took some time out recently to talk about David Lean's masterpiece, "Lawrence Of Arabia," as it arrives in a brand new 4-disc set today (get that Christmas shopping done early, folks). But before we jump into that, let's rewind the clock slightly.

Is there a greater film than "Lawrence of Arabia?" Perhaps. There are certainly few longer ones, or few that are more epic and sweeping in their scope (thanks to the timeless Panavision 70 photography by Freddie Young). But even if the film isn't your absolute favorite, it is the number one of many, including Steven Spielberg, who credits the picture with making him want to be a filmmaker.
