Former "Doctor Who" star David Tennant will return to the small screen starring in eight-part drama "Broadchurch" alongside Olivia Colman and Vicky McClure. The story centers on the media circus that descends on a small coastal community after the murder of a young boy. The project is being produced by Kudos Film & Television who are responsible for programs such as "Life On Mars," and "Law And Order: UK." "Broadchurch" will begin shooting in mid-August and later air on BBC Four. [Deadline]

Way back in 2010, ShoWest named Alex Pettyfer as one of their Stars Of Tomorrow, a dubious honor also bestowed at the time to Vanessa Hudgens, with the two of them pairing in the soon to be released box office bomb "Beastly." Time marched on. Now in 2012, Hudgens is working with Harmony Korine ("Spring Breakers") and Pettyfer with Steven Soderbergh ("Magic Mike"), movies in which they will both feature in little to no clothing. All this to say is that tomorrow never knows, but Pettyfer's rise continues as the actor joins a pretty high profile project.

A couple of weeks ago, the newly creatively revitalized Matthew McConaughey hit the Cannes Film Festival with two movies to promote -- Jeff Nichols' "Mud" and Lee Daniels' "The Paperboy." While reviews on the former generally leaned toward the positive, the latter was something of a sensation, but for all the wrong reasons. Rounded savaged by critics -- including a F grade from our man on the ground -- Daniels' film was considered trash by many, camp by some, but terrible by pretty much everyone who saw it, no matter how you slice it. And while McConaughey was briefly set to reunite with Daniels to play JFK in the director's developing "The Butler," another project is taking priority.

While "Precious" helmer Lee Daniels is nominally in Cannes at the moment to promote the debut of the follow up to his Oscar-nominee, "The Paperboy," which screens tomorrow morning (keep your eyes peeled for our review), it seems the director also intends to leak out casting news for his upcoming project, "The Butler." Earlier this week, it was revealed that Daniels would reunite with his "Paperboy" star Nicole Kidman on the project, and now Daniels has revealed that "Friday Night Lights" star Minka Kelly and "Precious" actor Lenny Kravitz have been added to the growing ensemble of "The Butler" as well.

With their teaming on "The Paperboy" set to unveil this Thursday at Cannes, it seems Lee Daniels and Nicole Kidman aren't sick of each other's company just yet, with the two lining up a reunion on the helmer's next project, "The Butler."

Post "Precious" in 2009, the world seemed to be filmmaker Lee Daniels' oyster. The aforementioned drama had scored six Oscar nominations, won two and the gestating projects started to pile up. There was the civil rights drama "Selma," which garnered interest from Robert DeNiro, Hugh Jackman and Liam Neeson, a potential adaptation of "Miss Saigon," and Denzel Washington was attached to his project "The Butler."

Thanks to her anti-war and feminist positions, Jane Fonda has never been a friend to right wingers, so this latest bit of casting news is sure to ruffle more than a few feathers.

Cropping up with all kinds of heat and big names being thrown around a couple of weeks ago, and then going quiet again, it looks as if Lee Daniels' "The Butler" is pushing ahead, and the cast is getting more intriguing with each passing day.

It looks like Lee Daniels really wants to get the "Selma" gang back together. Last night it was reported that the director was gearing up the gestating "The Butler" that he first signed on to back in 2010 with a number of big names in the mix including Oprah Winfrey, Hugh Jackman, Mila Kunis, John Cusack and David Oyelowo. The connections here are numerous, but Oprah executive produced "Precious," Cusack and Oyelow both feature in Daniels' upcoming "The Paperboy" while Jackman and Oyelowo were both touted for roles in the civil rights drama "Selma" before it fell apart. Now one more name is entering the fray.

Lee Daniels certainly knows how to draw in the stars. After breaking through with his low budget indie "Precious," which found people like Lenny Kravitz, Mariah Carey and Mo'Nique appearing, the director (after a highly publicized stalled project in "Selma" -- which we'll get to in a moment) put together "The Paperboy" with Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey, Zac Efron, John Cusack, David Oyelowo and more. And now, a project Daniels became involved with nearly two years ago is bubbling back to life, and it seems like he's slowly building a roster of regular players.
