Tom Hardy, Legend
Tom Hardy is hardly an actor who shies from a challenge. He's bulked up, lost weight, done an entire role muffled under a mask in "The Dark Knight Rises", tried to revive the cardigan in "Lawless," done an entire movie in a car in "Locke," and tried to save "This Means War" from being an irredeemable pile of shit. Coming up, he'll be donning a Russian accent for "Child 44," and an Australian one for "Mad Max: Fury Road," and playing Elton John in 'Rocketman," but he just started filming today on "Legend," which might be his greatest task yet.

Ronald and Reginald Kray Tom Hardy
For a little while now, Tom Hardy has been attached to play "Capone" in the film set to be directed by David Yates. Plans were fairly ambitious, with talk of a trilogy at one time, but with the director now busy on "Tarzan" (sigh) it looks a long way off. But Hardy will get to scratch his gangster itch twice over.

Today sees the release of "The Hunger Games," the much anticipated adaptation of the popular young adult novel series about a future in which children are forced to compete in a fight to the death for the entertainment of the overclass, and to help their district fight off starvation. The books have been bestsellers, and Lionsgate have pegged the film to be their own answer to another hugely popular teen-skewing franchise, vampire romances "Twilight." And it looks as if the gamble has paid off, with most prognosticators pegging the film to open well over $100 million in the U.S. this weekend.

Studio executives must have been over the moon when the first "Twilight" went massive at the box office. Not only where there was a new teen franchise, but, with a vampire as a protagonist, it was a theoretically endless one, vampires being, as everyone knows, immortal. But unfortunately for them, Stephanie Myers was inconsiderate enough to only write four books in the series (even more inconsiderately, the last one, once again, involves A WEREWOLF FALLING IN LOVE WITH A BABY), and so after next year's "Breaking Dawn Pt. 2," the franchise will come to an end, and the hunt has been on for some time for a replacement behemoth fantastical romance-infused young adult series.
