Tomas Alfredson Says There Is "Something Dishonest" About Matt Reeves' 'Let Me In' Remake

Last we heard from Tomas Alfredson, he was relatively cool with Matt Reeves' "Let Me In," a remake of the director's cult hit "Let The Right One In." “I haven’t seen it,” Alfredson told us in December. “It was a little disturbing when I first heard about it because I think I was still working on marketing my own version. So it was a little quick. It’s a very personal thing to be working with a book for several years. You think it’s your own and you fight for it a lot and then to be hearing about someone else dancing with your girlfriend, it’s strange. But I heard that it’s a good film and that they did a great job, so it’s no hard feelings. I will see it." But it seems his feelings on the matter may have hardened a bit.

2009’s vampire tale “Let the Right One In,” an adaptation of the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, was the polar opposite of the current vampire craze, a quiet, atmospheric and beautifully shot piece of cinema. Swedish director Tomas Alfredson’s chilling take bears no resemblance to the likes of “Twilight” or “True Blood,” comparing favorably instead with cinematic classics “Rosemary’s Baby” or “The Shining.”

'Cloverfield' Sequel Not Coming Anytime Soon; Filmmakers Still Trying To Find An Idea They LikeEXCLUSIVE: This time last year, we were being pretty vociferous in our opposition to Matt Reeves' "Let Me In." As an Americanized remake of a recent, widely acclaimed Swedish film, "Let The Right One In," it seemed to symbolize everything that's wrong with contemporary cinema, and we were dreading the thing. This means we've been left happily eating crow for the past few months after the film hit last fall and turned out to be terrific: deeply personal, beautifully crafted on every level and yes, superior to the original.

Each year sees hundreds of movies released into theaters and inevitably, some will fall through the cracks. Our list of the underrated and underappreciated films this year not only highlights the solid, critically acclaimed pictures that for whatever reason never got a fighting chance, but also the imperfect pictures that still had a lot to admire, as well as the straight up guilty pleasures that, despite ourselves, put a smile on our face. At any rate, if you managed to catch up with all the Oscar pictures already and are wondering if there is anything else this year you missed that is worth catching up with, this is a handy guide to those films that deserved a bit more attention or recognition than they got.

While 2009 seemed to burst at the seams with numerous ace soundtracks -- largely thanks to new films from Wes Anderson, Spike Jonze, Jim Jarmusch, Greg Mottola and Quentin Tarantino -- unless you were a “Twilight” fan, pickings were a lot slimmer this year for well curated songs in films (though, as you’ll see, there were some definite standouts). However, as if to compensate, composers stepped it up considerably with old reliables like Hans Zimmer, Clint Mansell, Carter Burwell and Michael Giacchino delivering the goods while left field surprises like Daft Punk and Trent Reznor shook up the stodgy old boys club with compelling, highly original work. Here’s the music from films that rocked our iPods in 2010.

Geeks love to champion films but it seems that this year, they either stayed away or couldn't convince anyone other than their Internet friends to go to the movies. "Kick-Ass" and "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" failed to set the box office on fire, but perhaps most deserving of mainstream appreciation and fanboy admiration, Matt Reeves' "Let Me In" was unfairly and unfortunately overlooked when it hit theaters last month.
