'The Ides Of March,' 'We Need To Talk About Kevin,' 'Carnage,' 'Wuthering Heights' & More Also IncludedWe're really getting into the thick of festival season by now. Telluride is long departed, things are winding down in Venice (we're here for another 24 hours, but it's starting to look like a ghost town), and The Playlist team head off to Toronto this afternoon. But there's plenty more on the way in the months to come. Only this morning, AFI Fest revealed that it would open with the premiere of Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar," and shortly afterwards, the full line-up for the 55th BFI London Film Festival has been announced.

Arriving barely a week after the teaser trailer, a full-length spot has arrived for Sundance hit "Like Crazy." The long-distance romantic drama stars Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones and Jennifer Lawrence and it struck a nerve with audiences at Park City earlier this year, taking home the Grand Jury Prize for director Drake Doremus and Special Jury Prize for Felicity Jones. This writer saw the film back in January and thought it was easily one of the best of the fest. The film was mostly improvised and manages to capture that suffocating feeling of being in a long-distance relationship delivering a few moments that are truly crushing.

Drake Doremus Says New Film With Guy Pearce & Amy Ryan A "Darker Cousin" To 'Like Crazy'The journey to Sundance is difficult as it is, but leaving is even harder as after all the hard work filmmakers put into their efforts, only very few leave Park City with the kind of buzz that Drake Doremus' "Like Crazy" has. With a Grand Jury Prize for Doremus and Special Jury Prize for Felicity Jones, the film which also co-stars Anton Yelchin and features Jennifer Lawrence in a small role as well, walked away with a distribution deal with Paramount and a wave of momentum for the director. But sometimes, to make that leap to a bigger stage you have to make some concessions, and in the case of "Like Crazy," it looks like Doremus had to make some tweaks to the movie in order to make sure its potential wasn't just limited to those aged 18 and over.

Plus One-Sheets For 'Like Crazy' And 'The Three Musketeers'We're excited about "Drive" for many reasons: director Nicolas Winding Refn, the killer supporting cast, the badass trailer and the rave reviews. But FilmDistrict has quite sensibly put their biggest asset front and center of the domestic one-sheet: Ryan Gosling. We've tried to maintain our journalistic independence, but in the face of R-Gos's big blue eyes, we just turn to jelly, which is why the backs of our notebooks are full of drawings of our future wedding and attempts to practice our signature with his surname.

Young love is already a frenzied cauldron of emotions, but young long distance love is whole other kettle of fish (or ball of wax) with geographic and heartache adding another sense of heightened feeling to a relationship. And so enters the Sundance hit "Like Crazy," the low key romancer starring Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones which walked away from Park City with the Grand Jury Prize for director Drake Doremus and Special Jury Prize for Felicity Jones.

With the cost of movies ever rising, profit margins on the biggest budget pictures ain't what they used to be. With most tentpoles coming in around the $150 million mark these days (with some well over $200m), even without a press & advertising cost of at least 50% of the budget, the special-effects blockbusters of the world are lucky if they return double their investment to the studios on the theatrical take. So when the chance comes along for a low-budget flick to crossover, the studios are thankfully still interested.

'Circumstance' & 'Buck' Win Audience AwardsSundance officially closes tomorrow, but tonight the awards were handed out in grand fashion in ceremonies presided over by Tim Blake Nelson, who arrived dressed up as a snowflake. While there were a number of strong films competing this year in the U.S. Dramatic Competition including "Homework," "Take Shelter," "Pariah," and "Martha Marcy May Marlene," it was Drake Doremus' tale of long distance love "Like Crazy" that grabbed the Grand Jury Prize. The film, which has earned a string of positive notices out of the festival (including one from our man on the ground James Rocchi), also snagged a Special Jury Prize in acting for Felicity Jones -- somewhat surprising given the whirl of buzz surrounding Elizabeth Olsen for "Martha Marcy May Marlene." However, that film wasn't entirely left out in the cold as Sean Durkin won the Directing Award. Audiences however, tipped their hat to a different film entirely with "Circumstance" -- a tale of forbidden love in Iran -- earning it the Audience Award.

'Project Nim,' 'Tabloid,' 'The Raven,' 'There Be Dragons' & 'Tanner Hall' All Picked Up In Busy Week Of AcquisitionsThe attitude coming out of Sundance this year is overwhelmingly positive, with many critics already swooning over quirky films like Miranda July’s “The Future” and Elizabeth Olsen’s performance in Sean Durkin’s “Martha Marcy May Marlene.” But though there’s been a lot of praise during the first three days of the indie festival, the first film to truly wow viewers (and buyers, apparently) is Drake Doremus’ “Like Crazy,” a film about long-distance lovers trying to make it through. It’s apparently so wonderful that just a day after its premiere, Paramount Pictures has snatched it up for U.S. distribution, with production company Indian Paintbrush co-producing, according to those close to the deal. The film has been one we've been keeping a close eye on for a while, and was already listed as one of our most anticipated of the year and the positive buzz now coming out of Park City has only stoked our curiosity further.
