Looks like some serious shuffling is happening down at the house of WB right now. Looking ahead at their 2016 and 2017 slate, Warner Bros. is making some moves—the most significant of which involves losing a key Christmas slot for December 2015 for Ben Affleck's next directorial project, "Live By Night," an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel.

How long can you wait for the next directorial effort from Ben Affleck? Moreover, how long can Warner Bros. wait? Well, it would appear they're erring on giving the Oscar winning actor/director as much time as possible rather than trying to rush him into a release date.

Well this makes a certain kind of sense: Dennis Lehane, the Boston crime writer whose novels "Gone Baby Gone," "Mystic River," and "Shutter Island" have been successfully adapted into films (and whose sprawling 2012 historical novel "Live by Night" is about to be adapted by Ben Affleck), will now be the one adapting material, as he has been tasked with Americanizing the French crime thriller "A Prophet" for producers Neil H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe (via Variety). The original film was about a Muslim kid who becomes a crime lord in prison. But replacing "Muslim" with "Boston" should be easy enough.

superman and batman
Better get used to it, folks. Ben Affleck is your next Batman. And as the Internet continues to have a collective short memory about the furor that greeted Michael Keaton when he was tapped to play Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton's films, or even Christopher Nolan's decision to cast Heath Ledger as the Joker, Warner Bros. is going about their business. We're still just under two years from seeing how Affleck will shade this new incarnation of the iconic superhero, and it seems he's got a few ideas of his own.

Live By Night Lindsay Lohan Ben Affleck
Fresh out of rehab with a movie arriving this week ("The Canyons") and gigs lined up, including an eight-episode docu-series on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network and a guest-hosting slot on "Chelsea Lately," it seems everyone is invested in Lindsay Lohan finally rising above her checkered, troubled past. But is a major studio ready to take a gamble on her staying healthy by casting her in a lead role in an upcoming film?

With his second Oscar under his belt for "Argo" and a plethora of options in front of him -- the Stephen King adaptation "The Stand," the remake of "Tell No One," and out his brewing Whitey Bulger biopic -- the filmmaker will be returning home for another Boston tale, albeit one that will see him raiding the costume departments.

"My guess is honestly, [it'll be] the movie after next. I'll probably find something that's in better shape to do next until we got that one ready, and then we'll go ahead and fire that one up," Ben Affleck told us just a couple of nights ago, when we asked him about his brewing Whitey Bulger biopic. And he may have found that project.

"Mystic River," "Gone Baby Gone" and "Shutter Island." As far as book-to-film adaptations go, Dennis Lehane is batting a perfect 3-for-3, and with Warner Bros. behind two of those pictures, they are looking to score another success by enlisting Leonardo DiCaprio.
