Well, with so many directors dipping their toes in the water of television, not everything is going to make it, and unfortunately for Mark Romanek's "Locke & Key," the pilot episode of the mooted gothic horror/drama never even got to air. Those lucky enough to be in San Diego in July for Comic-Con were treated to a screening of the pilot, but if you weren't around to catch, this trailer will likely be the only peek you'll ever get at what Romanek cooked up.

The conventional wisdom is that the massive San Diego Comic-Con is to serve as a launchpad for tentpole movies and television programs that will be hitting big and small screens over the next twelve to twenty-four months. But it looks like attendees this year will get a chance to see a promising show that was canceled (and hopefully will be revived if the word proves to strong).

Abrams' Series 'Alcatraz' Also Picked Up, But Mark Romanek's 'Locke & Key' Is DeadWith so much big-screen talent migrating to television, we're starting to cover more TV news here at The Playlist: while our heart will always be with the cinema, its upstart little cousin has wiped away any stigma that once remained, and in general, there's more good scripted comedy and drama around, both on network TV and on cable, than ever before. The current season is coming to a close over the next few weeks, which means that the networks will start unveiling their line-up for the coming 2011-12 season, and word's already started to leak with regards to the top-rated network, Fox.

While Mark Romanek figures out what film he'll tackle next following "Never Let Me Go," the director will follow the in the footsteps that many auteurs seem to be making these days, and will direct a pilot for Fox. Update: Deadline also says that "Lord Of The Rings" Aussie actress Miranda Otto has joined the cast in the lead role. It's a project from producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, better known as the superstar writing duo behind projects like "Star Trek," "Transformers" and "Cowboys And Aliens."
