When it opened at the Royal Court Theatre in London in 2010, "Posh" helped to give a real boost to the careers of its young cast, with actors including Kit Harington ("Game Of Thrones"), Joshua McGuire ("The Hour"), Tom Mison (the upcoming "Sleepy Hollow" TV series) and David Dawson ("Luther") all having gone on to great things after the fact. "An Education" director Lone Scherfig signed on to a film adaptation recently, and it looks like we might be seeing a movie cast that's just as broad in talent, with a few rising names, and one massive one, apparently in various stages of talks to come on board.

The Influence Of 'Once Upon A Time In America' & More From Lone Scherfig & Jim Sturgess About The FilmThere’s the average romantic comedy with the meet cute or initial hatred between the inevitable lovers, and then there’s “One Day.” Rather than featuring a traditional love story narrative, set over days, weeks, or even months, “One Day” visits Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess) on July 15 every year, starting in the ‘80s. The audience gets a glimpse of where they are--and where they are in relation to each other--each year on that day, creating 23 mini-films in one. They’re friends who are constantly bordering on being much more, even as others enter their lives.

Review: 'One Day' Essentially An Overwrought Nicholas Sparks Movie With Dodgy English Accents

Treacly, oftentimes predictable, lacking real chemistry and sporting a narrative conceit that never really serves the movie well, if you thought the only thing missing from movies based on Nicholas Sparks novels was questionably convincing English accents, “One Day” may be the movie for you. While there’s something to be said for any film that takes relationships between young adults even semi-seriously, Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess discover plenty of melodrama in their characters’ two-decade, on-off romance, but they unfortunately fail to fill out the other 364 days of those years with much depth.

One of the big brouhahas coming out of Cannes is, happily, that female directors have a much bigger place in the festival, including four rolling out their films in competition for the Palme d'Or. Since Kathryn Bigelow won her Best Director Oscar in 2009, a huge deal has rightfully been made of the meager number of female directors finding success in Hollywood. One counter-example seems to be Lone Scherfig, a Danish director who had an indie hit with "An Education" in 2009, the film that made Carey Mulligan a star. She went on to direct "One Day," an adaptation of the best-selling novel with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, set to release this year; Focus Features is behind the film, making this Scherfig's big Hollywood debut. Now, Screen Daily reports that Scherfig will take on a historical epic set in the court of Danish King Christian IV titled "Music and Silence."

Valentine's Day has come and gone for another year, and workplaces are buzzing with what everyone got up to last night. Rom-com marathons on your own at home, candlelit champagne dinners out with a loved one, or something in between -- in this writer's case, an evening spent in a dingy hotel room with three Romanian acrobats, some strobe lighting, a tank of oxygen, a live goat, a series of dressing gown cords, and Lou Reed's "Berlin" on repeat. What? Love comes in many different forms.

Wow. We knew that early word on this was good, but we didn't know it was this good. Focus Features has set the Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess led rom-com "One Day" with a scheduled July 8th release date, placing it right in the middle of the summer blockbuster season. The move will put the film, opening in a platform release, up against the Kevin James family vehicle "The Zookeeper" and more intriguingly, opposite the next and presumably terrible Katherine Heigl film, "One For The Money." We know what we're buying our tickets for that weekend.
