Mad Max: Fury Road
At least viewed from afar, since most of The Playlist team didn't go down for the event, it would seem that "Mad Max: Fury Road" walked away from this year's Comic-Con with the best buzz of any film that was presented. The trailer certainly got folks talking and amped up the excitement for what look likes a white knuckle action flick that is going re-invigorate the franchise that has been largely dormant for decades. Clearly, hitting San Diego a year out from release with a major presentation about the movie, Warner Bros. has big hopes for this movie to spawn even more, and it looks like the foundation has not only be laid, they are ready to go should 'Fury Road' prove to be a hit.

Mad Max: Fury Road
Shortly before the Warner Bros. panel in the cavernous Hall H at Comic Con, we were handed a T-shirt that said "Comic Con 2014 Belongs to the Mad." After seeing the panel for "Mad Max: Fury Road," we wholeheartedly agree. Director George Miller was on hand, along with a special video message from Charlize Theron, but the real excitement came in the form of the screened footage – a mind-boggling mix of practical and computer generated effects, with car chases the likes of which have previously never been captured on screen. This is some next-level, fire-breathing, post-apocalyptic mayhem.

Mad Max: Fury Road
Yeah, that was a cool “Avengers 2” Entertainment Weekly cover and all, but the “Mad Max: Fury Road” one stole everyone’s thunder. Wait, are we ranking EW covers here? No, but in terms of surprise, boldness and sheer bad-ass-ity—hell, one of the lead actors was missing an arm, for pete’s sake—we’d have to say that cover is one to beat for building anticipation.

Mad Max: Fury Road
It's been a long, winding, dusty and difficult road for “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Warner Bros.' new version of the “Mad Max” trilogy which loses Mel Gibson as the star and instead adds Tom Hardy in the lead role of Max Rockatansky. Director George Miller told us way back in 2011 that the narrative falls somewhere between a remake and a redo, but still retains some of the chronology of the original. “It’s a rebooted Mad Max, but it’s a new interpretation,” he said.

Mad Max: Fury Road, EW
“He’s a rebooted Mad Max, but it’s a new interpretation.” George Miller told us in 2011 about Tom Hardy playing the new anti-hero maverick of the wasteland. “We made it very clear from the outset that it would be crazy to try to impersonate what Mel Gibson had done, but Tom [like] Mel and Heath Ledger; these guys all have very similar kind of maleness, I find. I don’t know, they somehow remind me of big cats—they’re mesmerizing to look and be with, but you don’t know what they’re going to do at any moment.”

Mad Max: Fury Road
Shooting on George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” began in the summer of 2012 and the film isn’t coming out until summer 2015. That’s, ahem, a long frickin’ road to a movie (as well as one that opens only two weeks after “Avengers: Age of Ultron”). By all accounts it is an expensive and highly ambitious picture, utilizing a lot of practical effects, cars and stunts and little CGI.

Mad Max: Fury Road
With production starting in 2012, reshoots taking place last fall, and a lengthy post-production process that won't see the movie released until next fall, as of right now there aren't many details about George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road." It's a return to the Aussie franchise with Tom Hardy now taking the name Max Rockatansky, but a new peek has arrived.

We suppose there are two ways to look at Warner Brothers plans to release "Mad Max: Fury Road" during the summer of 2015 (which will essentially be three years after filming began): either the glass is half full or the glass is half empty. And for director George Miller, who is now in the midst of additional shooting on the picture, he's brimming with optimism about his movie, about WB's plans for it and even some of the early feedback he's been receiving.

We can't remember the last time a blockbuster movie took such a stretch between shooting and being released, but it seems Warner Bros. are taking their time with "Mad Max: Fury Road." That said, it seems that whatever is brewing, they are confident enough to release it into one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory.
