So, this morning a blurry image went around the interwebs of Tom Hardy looking particularly dusty and scruffy, with some claiming it to be the first look (as rough as it is) of the actor in "Mad Max: Fury Road." Well....it is.

It hasn't been a good year for blockbuster movies in the press. With both "John Carter" and "Battleship" taking losses, "47 Ronin" and "World War Z" going through some very public production troubles and delays, and even "The Lone Ranger" falling off course (after Disney had already delayed the pic to rein in the spending), studios are more wary then ever with their tentpole projects. Not only are they taking their time -- Disney put David Fincher on a three-month hold as they consider "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" -- but they're also trying to contain any issues that do crop up. Which brings us to "Fury Road."

After being pushed back months on end, production seems well and truly underway on George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road," which is shooting in Namibia after abnormal weather conditions pushed Miller and co. away from Australia. While it's been confirmed for quite some time that Tom Hardy would be taking over the iconic, titular role from Mel Gibson, with Charlize Theron co-starring as the mysterious Furiosa, a press release (via Collider) has unveiled the first synopsis for the film while confirming the entire cast (which includes a few more names), as well their kinda bonkers character names. Read on:

Minor news out of Namibia today which may upset some slightly, but all in all, it shouldn't be much of a concern. George Miller's long-gestating "Mad Max: Fury Road," which had been in the works for a few years now, but was delayed for almost 24 months due to innapropriate weather conditions (Australian deserts that were too lush and green instead of barren), won't be shooting in 3D as originally planned.

It was just a couple of weeks ago that eagle eyed tabloid types spotted model-turned-actress Rosie Huntington-Whitely flying in to meet director George Miller, and it looks like that conversation went well, as she's set to star in yet another blockbuster after Michael Bay debuted her in "Transformers: Dark Of The Moon."

There's one person who's pretty much inescapable in movie theaters at the moment, and that's Charlize Theron. Last weekend, she was the evil queen Ravenna in "Snow White And The Huntsman," and this weekend, she's the biggest name (although not the biggest part) among the ensemble cast of "Prometheus" -- a film that she was originally pegged to play the lead in. And in a few weeks, she'll start filming on the long-gestating "Fury Road," George Miller's return to the "Mad Max" world. Between those three, she's become the queen of the blockbuster world, and with a performance in "Young Adult" that might have been her most widely acclaimed ever, Theron's as big a star as she's ever been.

Charlize Theron is enjoying a particularly high profile at the moment thanks to a couple of big roles in “Prometheus” and “Snow White and the Huntsman” - just think how much we’d be talking about her right now if she’d have justifiably picked up an Oscar nomination earlier in the year for her performance in “Young Adult." Now that all of those films have (just about) made their way to theatres and can be judged on their merits, we can now turn our attention to some of her upcoming projects including George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

Poor Tom Hardy. First the actor is forced to grow an unwieldy beard as prep for his starring role in the upcoming “Mad Max” reboot, only to have the start date pushed back countless times. Then, while in Cannes this week helping to promote John Hillcoat's “Lawless,” Hardy confessed he still had no clue when shooting began. However, it seems Hardy was either off trimming his beard when news struck, or co-star Charlize Theron is just more aware of these things, because the actress today revealed the film is set to shoot very soon, as in next week.

Status report check-in time. If you've paid attention to interviews with Charlize Theron, you'll know she almost didn't star in Jason Reitman's "Young Adult" because she was supposed to play the female lead in George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road," the long-awaited continuation of the Mad Max saga, this time with Tom Hardy in the lead instead of Mel Gibson. She was also set to be the star of "Prometheus," but had to bail on that role that Noomi Rapace eventually took because of "Fury Road" once more (she instead, eventually took a smaller role in the film).
