Rareified air. This weekend's box office took cinematic money-making to a new high, with four movies registering eight-figure Fridays for the first time in history, leading to a bonanza that almost every studio enjoyed. Leading the way and outdoing all expectations was "Ted," the teddy bear-Marky Mark bromantic comedy that brought in a spectacular $54.1 million. It marks the third highest R-rated opening of all time behind "The Hangover Part II" and "Sex And The City."

There are different kinds of magic. Everyday occurrences, for example, are full of mysterious moments that may be beyond reasoning: coincidences, fate, déjà vu. Like falling in love with a stranger, only to find out that he lives next door. Of course, there’s the flat-out supernatural, the kind that only happens to a select few, and the Harry Potter/Gandalf variety too. Talking, walking, pothead teddy bears and fantastical creatures rising from melted ice caps would fall into that latter category. However you see it, there’s magic waiting for you in the cinemas this weekend. Double, double toil and trouble. Abracadabra. Lumos!

Well, if wasn't obvious before, it is now: Steven Soderbergh and Channing Tatum are having a full on bromance. After appearing in a small role in "Haywire," it seems Soderbergh and Tatum really hit it off, with the former encouraging the latter to develop his idea about a movie based on his days stripping and then signing on to direct. The result, "Magic Mike," is currently looking at taking in over $30 million this weekend, a rather remarkable feat in June, when you consider there are no superheroes, toys, or brands to be found. Also, the pair recently wrapped on "The Bitter Pill" which hits theaters next spring. But it looks like they haven't left Club Xquisite just yet.

At the recent Los Angeles press day for “Magic Mike,” which tells the story of a successful stripper who takes a newcomer under his wing, there were a lot of questions about thongs – certainly more than are usually asked at a press conference. But with director Steven Soderbergh at the helm of the film and the center of the panel of contributors who brought it to life, much more was ultimately discussed than just where the cast purchased their undergarments, and how they chose the ones that they felt best represented their characters’ personalities.

Nicolas Winding Refn Was Originally In Talks To Direct 'Magic Mike'; Steven Soderbergh Has No Desire To Make Another "Important Movie"

Well, you gotta admit, Channing Tatum has got some serious taste when it comes to directors. With his CV so far including folks like Michael Mann, Kevin Macdonald, Ron Howard, Kimberley Peirce and now, of course, Steven Soderbergh (x3), there's another helmer that, had things gone differently, Tatum would've already knocked out a couple movies with. His name? Nicolas Winding Refn. After "Bronson" in 2008, Refn was lining up the thriller "The Dying Of The Light," which would've starred Harrison Ford and Tatum in a Paul Schrader-penned film about a CIA agent who becomes afflicted by blindness. The project fell apart, but it seems Tatum and Refn were talking about reuniting on something entirely different.

The movie hasn't even hit theaters yet, but it looks like the folks behind "Magic Mike" want to take another twirl around the stripper pole. As theater owners plan cleanup efforts for the glut of thongs and bras to be thrown at the screen this weekend during viewings of Steven Soderbergh's upcoming movie, it seems folks on the Great White Way might want to get ready as well -- "Magic Mike" could be going to Broadway.

Since someone could essentially put every “The Amazing Spider-Man” clip released by Sony into Final Cut and string together a nice bootleg version of the film (and someone did put together a 25 min supercut that was yanked by Sony earlier today), a new spoilery segment with Rhys Ifans has now arrived to take care of any narrative gaps, and just for good measure, a one-minute striptease from “Magic Mike” to add a little abs into the mix.

There’s just something about Channing Tatum. Clearly, he’s got that magic touch (why else would Paramount be reshooting “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” to add more Chan?), a certain je ne sais quoi that would inspire veteran auteur Stephen Soderbergh to bring his early life story as a Florida stripper to the silver screen, while making the ultimate male stripper movie in the process. It just so happens to be a really good film too, one that’s about more than just shakin’ what the good Lord bestowed on Mr. Tatum and pals.

While the summer season in 2012 features a lot of men dressing up in tights, the dudes in Steven Soderbergh's "Magic Mike" flip the script by taking off their clothes instead. But they're not going out to fight crime. Instead, they're melting hearts and making some fast money at the same time. And if you want to know how wild this movie might get, two red band TV spots are here to give you a taste.

We've run out of clever ways to introduce this, so let's get to the point of what "Magic Mike" is really all about: hot, buff, oily and raw dudes who take their clothes off. That's it. And if you need more proof, a huge batch of new images from the movie have dropped.
