With promises that he'll shoot on the fading 35mm film format, and employ a tasteful amount of CGI rather than bombarding our eyeballs with pixels, J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode 7" has one more trick up its sleeve: you'll be able to see it in IMAX.

Yeah, we know. It feels like there's been about fifteen trailers for "Maleficent" already, and Disney has dropped yet another, but instead of essentially playing like an extended TV spot, this is a legit full length spot with lots of new footage, magical stuff and bellowing. So let's take a gander, shall we?

For the kids! If tonight's Grammy Awards have taught us anything, it's that we have no idea what counts as "popular music" these days. So if Disney is choosing fashion model/blog famous singer Lana Del Rey to help power their new trailer for "Maleficent," then it probably means their marketing department has determined the demographic this is aimed for will totally dig it.

There are a couple things that casual audiences might need to know about "Maleficent" before buying a ticket: firstly, how to pronounce the film, and secondly, who exactly this unpronounceable character is and why it matters. And with the new teaser trailer for their summer blockbuster, Disney is answering both those questions.

With Marvel and Lucasfilm doing their thing, Disney is now trying to reboot and extend their own brands for the 21st century. The live action "Cinderella" is now shooting, an "Alice In Wonderland" sequel is cooking and next year brings "Maleficent," which is not only a standalone movie for the villain of the 1959 animated classic "Maleficent," but it gives Angelina Jolie a chance to play bad and scare the crap out of little kids. “I’d go over to the children and say hi,” she said this summer at D23, recalling instances when the production had young visitors on set. “And they would scream and run off. One little boy actually said Mommy, ‘Please, tell the mean witch to please stop talking to me.’”

As Marc Forster of "World War Z" fame and Carl Rinsch, of the upcoming and frequently delayed "47 Ronin" know, sometimes a blockbuster movie can escape your grasp. Whether it's the sheer scale of the production or not all the parts being the in the right place at the right time, a tentpole can quickly turn into a nightmare. And while Disney's "Maleficent" probably doesn't qualify as a disaster, there are some problems that need some serious fixing with less than a year to go until its release.

“The Good Dinosaur”
For the past nine years, Pixar has been mostly delighting, sometimes disappointing, moviegoers with a fresh film each year, from their much vaunted braintrust. Exemplifying the high ideals of letting creative people do their work and getting out of the way (for the most part), Pixar has lived up to that mantra both critically and commercially. As such, they've become a seemingly unstoppable box office machine, even if internally, some projects went through some painful birthing processes (see "Brave"). However, it looks like Pixar are facing some issues with their latest movie and have found a way to jump that hurdle, or at least push it off for a bit.

Disney's D23 expo -- the Mouse House's equivalent to San Diego Comic-Con -- came and went this past weekend, bringing much of the world's manchild population to Anaheim for several days of Disney-related fun. Given the studio's increasing dominance of the tentpole field thanks to their acquisition of Marvel and Lucasfilm, hopes were high that some hot news might drop, but outside of some casting for some Pixar movies, it didn't really happen.
