There are few people in Hollywood who know more about special effects than Joe Letteri – which is probably why he’s earned five Oscars in the past eight years, and worked in some capacity on almost every major blockbuster released in Hollywood.

During his 27 years in Hollywood, Hans Zimmer has produced hundreds of film scores, sometimes five or six in the span of one year. But what’s interesting about his work is that it’s become more eclectic and undefinable, not less, as his career has progressed. Listening to his more recent work on films such as “Inception” and “Sherlock Holmes,” there are few traces of the synthesizer-heavy material he made his name with in the 1980s, and remarkably, few similarities even between those two recent examples. But even with expectations for his score for “The Dark Knight Rises” looming large over his work for the forthcoming film, Zimmer told The Playlist that he’s not sure how much the score will share in common with its atonal predecessor.

Shannon Studying Ulysses S. Grant And Other Generals For His Zod Role In 'Superman'Things are looking pretty good for Arkansas filmmaker Jeff Nichols. A quick summer shoot for his sophomore offering "Take Shelter" (starring Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain) lead to it being sold to Sony Picture Classics before even playing the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The quiet, occasionally startling meditation on marriage and fatherhood received rave reviews during its time at both the former festival and Cannes, picking up two prizes from the Croisette on its way out. But Nichols didn't bask in the glory for too long, as he was already busy setting up his third feature, the Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon-lead "Mud."

Also Says That Crime Film 'The Iceman' & James Franco's 'As I Lay Dying' Aren't Happening Any Time Soon We have to confess, when considering the possibilities as to who might end up playing villain General Zod in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot "Man of Steel," Michael Shannon was never on our list. Not that he's not a fine actor -- he's one of the finest out there right now, one who goes from strength to strength with seemingly every performance. And not that he's resisted studio fare in the past -- indeed, he'll be playing a villain in the Joseph Gordon-Levitt vehicle "Premium Rush" at the start of next year. It's more that Shannon's particular brand of bug-eyed crazy is so very different from the steely fascism embodied by Terence Stamp in the character's last big-screen appearance in "Superman II."

Is That Ryan Reynolds? Who Did His Hair, Vidal Sassoon? So, the cameras have started rolling on Zack Snyder's "Man Of Steel" and to beat the shitty, crappy cell phone camera snaps of obsessive nerds from revealing the "first look" at Supes, Warner Bros. ha (mostly) beaten everyone to the punch by releasing the first still of Henry Cavill in tights and in action. And, yeah, we're going to need more convincing.

Just Like Audiences Worldwide, WB Reportedly Not Happy With Martin Campbell's DirectionThere is nothing about a prospective "Green Lantern 2" that doesn't reek of flop sweat. DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. are scuffling in their race against Marvel/themselves to develop a new chain of franchises based on comic book characters, and the performance of "GL" this summer has certainly hurt momentum. With "The Dark Knight Rises" pegged for next summer and "The Man Of Steel" after that, they're going to want to diversify, lest the studio be forced to greenlight a bunch of actual real movies with interesting original characters not made to sell Happy Meals. Ye gods.

While during the "Immortals" panel in Hall H at Comic-Con 2011, lead actor Henry Cavill remained relatively quiet and stayed mostly mum on his upcoming role of a lifetime as Superman in Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel," he did allow that the story is "one of the best scripts I’ve ever read.”

Something had to give, and right in the middle of Comic-Con no less! Warner Bros. has officially moved the Christopher Nolan-produced, Zack Snyder directed, Superman movie "Man of Steel" from December 2012 to June, 14, 2013.
