His films may be freaky and funky and may not appeal to the average Joe Moviegoer, but stars line up to work with David Cronenberg. Simply, with unique stories usually married with inventive visuals, the filmmaker makes the kinds of movies few get the chance to do in Hollywood and so it comes as no surprise that his upcoming "Maps To The Stars" is lining up talent left and right.

We have to admit, we were kinda worried. Last month, Rachel Weisz dropped out of David Cronenberg's brewing "Maps To The Stars," the project that would reteam him with his "Cosmopolis" lead Robert Pattinson. The plan was to shoot the movie next month, but with Cronenberg recently taking a role in "I Am Love" helmer Luca Guadagnino's adaptation of Don DeLillo's novel "The Body Artist," lensing this summer, we wondered about the status of 'Maps.' Turns out, we have nothing to worry about.

With a big, meaty blockbuster under belt with "Oz The Great And Powerful," 2013 is off a nice start for Rachel Weisz, but it looks like there is a change in plans for the actress. While she signed up last fall to star in David Cronenberg's "Map To The Stars," it looks like she won't be part of the movie going forward.

Brewing since 2006, not much has really been known about David Cronenberg's "Map to the Stars." In May he described it as, "very extreme. It's not obviously a very big commercial movie, and even as an independent film it's difficult. 'Maps to the Stars' is completely different [from 'Cosmopolis'], but it's very acerbic and satirical, it's a hard sell." But Cronenberg has made a career out of mounting one "hard sell" picture after another, and thanks to three major stars on board, this one looks like it's getting made.

Having just made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, David Cronenberg's striking and claustrophobic "Cosmopolis" is riding a wave of buzz. While reviews of the provocative picture have been mixed, champions of the film -- including our own A-grade review from the Croisette -- describe the effort as one of his best in recent years. And part of the buzz is likely largely in part thanks to Cronenberg's unlikely star Robert Pattinson. Known globally as Edward Cullen from the "Twilight" series, with that franchise coming to a close this year, Pattinson is looking ahead and eager to take on new acting challenges. And by most accounts, he passed with flying colors in the edgy "Cosmopolis," a performance should open the eyes of many to the variety of talents he may not get to exercise in the vampire series.
