Tom Everett Scott To Hook Up With Marisa Tomei In 'Us & Them' With Billy Crystal & Bette Midler

It has been nearly a decade since funnyman Billy Crystal has appeared on screen in a movie (and we'll overlook his cameo in "The Tooth Fairy"), seemingly perfectly content to just do voice work ("Cars," "Howl's Moving Castle") or appear in viral videos. But there is only so long you can keep somebody like Crystal away from a movie set. He's set to cameo in "The Muppets" later this year, he apparently pops up in Jonas Åkerlund's "Small Apartments" and, of course, he'll be bringing Mike Wazowski back to life in "Monsters University." But his first big starring role since "Analyze That" will be in "Us & Them" with Bette Midler and Bailee Madison, and now a couple more folks are along for the ride.

Precariously mixing elements of broad comedy, bittersweet heartache, charming romance and soulful, surprisingly mature dramatic moments, "Crazy, Stupid, Love" is an endearing and winning summer comedic drama. It succeeds in spite of some messy plotting, dicey adulteration of tones, and too convenient and ridiculous sequences that threaten to unravel a well-made, mostly well-written picture about love and marital discord.

George Clooney's 'Ides Of March' Will Open The Venice Film Festival

We are all highly anticipating the fall festival season, and, for most of us, it couldn't get here sooner. The first big news of the season, is that George Clooney's newest directorial effort, "Ides Of March," will open the Venice Film Festival. Clooney will also star as a presidential candidate alongside man of the year Ryan Gosling as his head of media. Philip Seymour Hoffman will take on a supporting role as a campaign manager with Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood rounding it out, making the film's cast a star-studded one to watch.

We bloody love Emily Mortimer. The British star has proved herself over the last decade or so to be an incredibly versatile actress, capable of terrific dramatic work, in projects like "Lars and the Real Girl" or "Lovely & Amazing" (the latter really should have brought her more awards attention) and broad comedy (her turn as Jack Donaghy's bird-boned girlfriend in "30 Rock" is one for the ages), and she even classes up more formulaic fare -- see her turn as a cop opposite Michael Caine in "Harry Brown."

Generally speaking, HBO keeps going from strength to strength. 2011 has already brought the most involving "Cinema Verite," the increasingly gripping "Game of Thrones" (which is more than worth checking out, even if you're allergic to fantasy) and Todd Haynes' wonderful "Mildred Pierce," and their upcoming slate includes work from the likes of Michael Mann, David Milch, Armando Ianucci, Lena Dunham, Judd Apatow and Mike White, with projects in development with Michael Chabon, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Zach Galifianakis and Neil Gaiman, among many, many others.

While "The Last Exorcism" couldn't muster up a decent scare and "The Virginity Hit" was a non-starter, Huck Botko -- who wrote the former and wrote/directed the latter -- seems to be making a step into feature films that have a budget that requires more than running around with a handheld camera.
