It’s been over four years since a Guillermo Del Toro-directed film has been in theatres and with the kaiju-versus-robots film “Pacific Rim” in the home stretch, it looked like the monster maven would finally start working on the vast catalogue of projects he’s been attached to. Last year the Mexican filmmaker decided to co-helm the stop-motion version of “Pinocchio” that he had been producing but now it looks the project may not become a reality after all, if cryptic tweets are anything to go by.

If a new version of "Pinocchio" involving Guillermo Del Toro sounds familiar, well, that's because it is. The project has been kicking around since 2008, and just over a year ago it was announced that the ever busy helmer would produce, with Gris Grimly and animation director of "Fantastic Mr. Fox," Mark Gustafson, co-helming the film. Well, it looks like Del Toro can't keep his hands off the movie, and has decided to replace Grimly with himself and take on the co-director's chair.

The sheer thought of animated production house Laika making a new feature should excite most any cinephile or fan of animation, especially with their track record that includes “Coraline” and the upcoming and equally tantalizing "ParaNorman," the horror-themed story of a young boy who looks to save his town from an ages-old curse. We’ve already seen a few trailers for that project, we know composer extraordinaire Jon Brion will be handling soundtrack duties, and frankly we’re pretty excited.
