Matthew Vaughn doesn't tend to be the sort of director to get attached to a zillion projects. The director behind "Kick-Ass" and "X-Men: First Class" found his schedule wide open when he dropped out of helming "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" last fall, and while he was briefly rumored as a contender for "Star Wars: Episode 7" and signed up to produce Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four," his next gig is actually one that has been brewing for a long time now, and it will reunite him with an old pal.

Our distaste for comics writer and new 20th Century Fox creative consultant Mark Millar’s constant need to exaggerate is well-documented. While the man is certainly not without talent, his ability to ramble about projects that either never come to pass or arrive in a completely different form than he’s mentioned is uncanny, and sometimes he even comments on projects he has nothing to do with. Still, Hollywood loves adapting his comics like “Wanted,” “Kick-Ass,” and eventually “Nemesis,” and as we said, Fox pretty much just handed over the key to their Marvel heroes in some regards as he’ll be overseeing their films. Suffice to say, Twitter has aided Millar in spreading these exaggerations, and lately he’s been going on about his latest project, “Supercrooks,” which he now says is targeting an A-list star.

After "Iron Man," Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, "The Avengers" and oh, you know, every other title that arrives every six months, comic-book movies are obviously still all the rage. But it wasn't always like that. In the early aughts there were plenty of misfires, with many of them coming from 20th Century Fox: "Daredevil," "Elektra," "Fantastic Four," "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" were all mostly moneymakers, but were all generally reviled.  The same applied to lesser-known titles adapted from comics like "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," which was also a Fox property based off a comic book series written by Alan Moore that was such a bad film it practically sent him to an early grave and hastened Sean Connery's retirement (of course, we're not even counting dreck like Warner Bros.' "Catwoman").

The ratio of truth to... exagerrated truth with Mark Millar doesn't give the kind of odds you'd want to put any kind of significant money on. If J.J Abrams, Christopher Nolan, Damon Lindelof and Ridley Scott are viewed as being on the secretive side about revealing plot details and information regarding their unreleased, often still-in-development movies, one then must consider comic book writer Mark Millar to be on the exact opposite end of the spectrum. While not exactly in the movie business like the four aforementioned artists, several of Millar's comics  (such as "Supercrooks" and "Nemesis") are in development at various studios and production companies. Seemingly very enthusiastic to be a part of the Hollywood process, Millar is very amenable to telling you pretty much whatever you want to know about any of his projects in development, going as far as to make wild casting announcements (like when we said Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt were being approached for "Nemesis") and generally claiming unrealistic start dates to any project under the sun (all of them).

Oh, Mark Millar. In an industry where hyperbole and exaggeration are king, Mark Millar is on a whole other level, always eager to talk about himself and his films with whoever is willing to listen, often feeding the machine with lots of excitement about projects that are premature to say the least. His latest bit of news comes courtesy of his own Millar World forums (via Bleeding Cool) where he claims that the much talked-about (at least by him) "Kick-Ass 2" will shoot this summer.

Mark Millar, the source writer of both “Kick-Ass” and “Wanted,” likes to talk. He’s always got something to say about the various projects based on his work, and often the legitimacy and accuracy of said comments can be brought into question. We’re still waiting to hear confirmation of that “Kick-Ass” sequel he assured us was going to happen. But, in fairness, whilst Millar does like to talk that’s probably because he’s got a lot to talk about.
