James Gray's 'Low Life' With Joaquin Phoenix, Jeremy Renner & Marion Cotillard Aims To Start Shooting In January 2012Given the Hollywood-friendly slickness of his directorial efforts to date, it was only a matter of time before French actor Guillaume Canet made a film in the U.S. The star of "The Beach" and "Love Me If You Dare," among many others, stepped behind the camera to much acclaim with 2002's Cesar-nominated "Mon Idole," the 2007 thriller "Tell No One" (which Ben Affleck is planning to remake), and followed it up with 2010's "Little White Lies," all of which showed an international sensibility.

Are David O. Russell & Mark Wahlberg No Longer BFFs After Splitting On The Film?As David O. Russell's long developing "The Silver Linings Playbook" now rolls in front of cameras, he's added one more to the cast. Variety reports that respected theater actor John Ortiz -- who has made appearances in "Fast & Furious," "Jack Goes Boating" and "Public Enemies" among others -- has joined the film playing lead Bradley Cooper's best buddy.

Bradley Cooper Flies From 'The Crow,' Mark Wahlberg & Channing Tatum Sought To Go Goth

The road to "The Crow" remake/reboot hasn't been without its bumps. Things seemed to moving along swimmingly with Relativity pushing the project ahead, with "28 Weeks Later" director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo at the helm and Bradley Cooper set to take the lead role. Things got derailed slightly when The Weinstein Company launched a lawsuit against Relativity regarding the rights to the franchise -- the case is now in arbitration -- it put the project on hold for a couple of months, enough time for Cooper to start booking his plans for the rest of the year, and even though the legal imbroglio is still being resolved, a new writer, Alex Tse ("Watchmen") was brought on to rewrite the project. Well, Cooper is booked up for the rest of the year with "The Place Beyond The Pines," "The Silver Linings Playbook" before heading into "Paradise Lost" and his schedule has forced him to fly the coop, but no worries, as the studio is now beginning to look at potential replacements and the first two choices to rise the top couldn't be more different.

Even though Mark Wahlberg and David O. Russell can't seem to get on the same page these days -- the actor had to drop out of "The Silver Linings Playbook" recently due to scheduling woes -- it still seems the pair are looking over each others' shoulders. At the beginning of the year, you might remember that Russell was attached to rewrite and direct "2 Guns" with Vince Vaughn attached to star. Well, Russell and Wahlberg have swapped the project and Vaughn looks to have moved on.

Are BFFs Mark Wahlberg and David O. Russell having trouble? Are there problems in the house that "Three Kings," "I Heart Huckabees" and "The Fighter" built? Nah, it's nothing more than routine scheduling issues but it looks like the two best bros and frequent collaborators won't be reteaming for "The Silver Linings Playbook" -- but one of the earliest names attached the film has returned.

While John Landis hasn't made anything worth talking about since "Coming To America," his son Max Landis is carrying the family name. The up-and-coming scribe penned the forthcoming superhero flick "Chronicle"; he's got “Amnesty” a mysterious project described as a cross between J.R.R. Tolkien and Robert Ludlum with Ron Howard attached and he's penning one of the many Frankenstein pics knocking around Hollywood looking to get made. Now another Max Landis project is attracting some heavyweight talent.

Last year, when Mark Wahlberg was busy on "The Fighter" press circuit, most notably talking up "Uncharted" -- which his best bud David O. Russell has now officially moved on from -- there was one other project he mentioned: "Broken City." Wahlberg said last fall, “there’s this other thing, 'Broken City,' that I want to do at the end of next year with Allen Hughes directing, which is on the Black List. It’s one of the best unproduced screenplays, an amazing piece of material that should attract amazing talent.” Well, it certainly has the money behind it now.

The idea of a sequel to "The Fighter" is a cute thought. One has to assume high of the success off the picture (some seven odd years in the making) producer/actor Mark Wahlberg and director David O. Russell -- who have worked together on three films so far, "Three Kings," "I Heart Huckabees" and the aforementioned pugilist picture -- were just shitcking ideas around in a celebratory fashion.

Mark Wahlberg Re-Uniting With David O. Russell For 'The Silver Linings Playbook'

Film Will Seemingly Shoot Ahead Of Video Game Adaptation 'Uncharted' The first time David O. Russell teamed up with Mark Wahlberg, it was on the outstanding "Three Kings," but their follow-up was something of a mixed bag: "I Heart Huckabees" divided critics, and was mostly ignored by audiences. But Wahlberg was brilliant in it, and their third collaboration, "The Fighter," was far more successful, picking up Oscar nominations and a hefty box office take, and the two seemed to be a good team. Unfortunately, their next mooted film was the video game adaptation "Uncharted" which, while we have faith that Russell would turn out something more interesting than, say, "Mortal Kombat," it didn't necessarily seem to be the best use of their talents.
