While fans of Peter Jackson's original "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy eagerly eat up the extended editions on home video, which offered up lots more Middle Earth, did anyone walk out of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" saying, "I hope there's even more of that!" Okay, there are the super diehard fans who cry and shake at anything from the Tolkien universe, but it's likely safe to say that 'Unexpected' didn't quite capture the same pop culture buzz as 'LOTR' before it. Nevertheless, the marketing must continue.

Review: Edgar Wright's 'The World's End' Starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman & More

As the completion of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s thus-far endlessly watchable Cornetto Trilogy, “The World’s End” is probably the funniest movie I’ve ever felt really disappointed by. Like “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” before it, their collaboration once again produces some of the most genuine, earned, character-driven laughs in any modern comedy. And in many ways it evidences the trio’s individual and collective growth as performers and creators, employing what has become to their fans familiar techniques to communicate increasingly sophisticated ideas. But as a film whose central theme emphasizes the dangers of living in the past, Wright, Pegg and Frost become fatally distracted by nostalgia, eventually paying too much homage to previous classics—especially their own—to create another film that deserves to stand alongside them.

The World's End
"After 'Hot Fuzz' we always thought it would be rude not to wrap the films up in a neat trilogy,” director Edgar Wright recently told Yahoo! Movies about "The World's End," the upcoming last film in his mooted Cornetto trilogy (a British ice cream that features in all three movies). “I think it’s a theme that haunts me and Simon [Pegg], the dubious dream of perpetual adolescence and the idea that someone is always younger than you. I think we finally finish this arc with this movie. The adolescence is over here.” So what's this film about then beside arrested development in man children? Five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind's only hope for survival. But as Wright noted, chasing adolescence is only top of mind for one of the five friends.

The Desolation Of Smaug, Hobbit, Legolas
It seems so long ago when there was genuine excitement for "The Hobbit" franchise, with Peter Jackson taking the reins, and two movies promising to bring audiences back to Middle Earth. But then two got stretched to three, there was that whole 48 frames-per-second thing and then when "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" arrived it...well, it was unexpectedly disappointing to some degree. While the LOTR series certainly stretched it legs, for the first time the bloat was really felt, and perhaps indicated that expanding an already thin novella may not have been the wisest choice. But maybe the middle movie will be the step in the right direction? Either way, we're cautious....

The World's End
It seems that if you want some vision of the world coming an end, you have more than a few options at the movies this year; on Wednesday "This Is The End" comes to theaters, and numerous sci-fi blockbusters this summer ("Oblivion," "After Earth") have already tackled apocalyptic visions of Earth forever changed and humanity forced to leave. Some extra posters for a couple of the other flavors of big and scary end-times are here, continuing cinema's determination to make 2013 the year it all ended.

The World’s End
Edgar Wright’s loose “Cornetto” trilogy is coming to an end. In a recent CapeTown Film Fest conversation (can someone please explain what “CapeTown” means? Is that code for nerd gathering?), Wright explained the origin of the ice cream jokes in his trilogy while discussing his latest film in the triptych, “The World’s End.”

Everybody's talking about Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" test footage, shot last year for Marvel, unveiled at Comic-Con and then recently leaked online. It was swiftly taken down by Marvel lawyers of course, but those who got to peek at the brief footage were able to witness something that looks beyond promising. But Wright's got bigger fish to fry than a movie that won't arrive in theaters until 2015: namely his upcoming feature "The World's End." Perhaps attesting to Wright's speed -- it was shot last September -- the film appears to be already complete and its U.S. date has been moved up two months, with the stem to stern of the picture arriving in under just 12 months.

It seems that, at least on the big screen, the end of the world just isn't worth it without your friends. Last year we saw a bit of that in "Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World," while the Apatow gang will push that notion further this summer with "This Is The End." And this fall, Edgar Wright will round up the boys for a pint in "The World's End," and some new images are here to give you a sneak peek.

Before he was Bilbo, before he was Watson, Martin Freeman was Tim Canterbury, a lowly salesman at Wernham Hogg Paper Company. It's hard to believe, but the original U.K. "The Office" is already over ten years old, and its U.S. counterpart is wrapping up at the end of this season too. Well, if you need to a good reminder as to why the original is worth pulling off the shelf and giving another spin, it's gonna come from an unlikely place.

Well, it's a wrap. Production has ended on Edgar Wright's "The World's End" and star Simon Pegg has tweeted out the first look from the film. It's not terribly exciting as a photo, but it does showcase the fantastic English cast which includes Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, "The Hobbit" star Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan. Not pictured, but still included in this solid cast is Rosamund Pike.
